Ebay - now Ebabe with guitars.

Robblink noticed this years ago, and the trend is still going strong. Ebay sellers with access to pretty women pose their stuff with said pretty women in hopes of raising the bids of their stuff. It's the worlds oldest advertising trick, after all, it's gotta work, right? For example this ad for a 1972 Les Paul deluxe Gold guitar has a lass dressed in an evening gown to go with it. The young lady holding that guitar is probably half the guitars age. There's been a drop in naked men holding X-boxes recently. Not that I'm constantly trawling eBay for photos like these. Nu-uh. We should set up a quickly forgotten tumblr-site with these.

Ad Chat - Richard Tseng

Photo © Adrian Chan

I had the pleasure of hanging out with Richard Tseng for a bit in Cannes, discussing everything between heaven and earth related to advertising, new media, story-telling, ideas and ethics, and I think he's a razor sharp guy. He's currently freelancing at CP+B in Toronto as a copywriter. You can find all his web-stuff on richtseng.com and follow @richardtseng on twitter.

What's your favorite funny story about yourself?
I was once chased for 3 blocks by 5 gangsta drug dealers because, when I walked by their alley and they told me they had what I wanted, I pretended to mistake them for gay prostitutes offering their services. I used to be a crazy asshole whenever I got drunk.

MTV drunk valet vs Brazil drunk valet. Spoiler: neither are actually drunk.

No idea how this Badland happened, it's a very clever idea and seems so obvious in hindsight that it's entirely possible that both were thought up independently. The Indian version from Ogilvy in Mumbai was in Cannes 2008, while the Brazilian version got silver in promo and activation 2011. Ooops!

Lets compare and contrast. Cannes 2011 seems to be the year of "seen it". Sadly.

Newcastle bottle cap art / installation billboard comes alive at night

Newcastle are doing even more installations. Remember the schooner you could pretend to be drowning in? That ain't nothing, wait 'til you see the bottle cap billboard that was put together by New York shadow artists Pablo Power and Ellis Gallagher. The Shadow art is displayed in San Diego's Gaslamp district and the idea was conceived by ad agency Vitro.

PETA.XXX - Beating the meat once again, and the reactions aren't pretty.

Way down at the bottom of this Reuters article about XXX domains PETA stakes a claim at PETA.XXX and promises to launch a porn site.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals also signed up. However, instead of blocking its name, said PETA spokeswoman Lindsay Rajt, the organization will launch peta.xxx as a pornography site that draws attention to the plight of animals.
