bloggers.....
calling all adgrunt bloggers.
I have cleaned up around the links and added a section for the blogs out there - plenty of you have one so why not add it?
All members blogs are welcome be they adranty or not. cheers.
The "latest ad links out" box now contains both the link to the links and the link to add one in the box itself - i'm hoping this clarifies it's use.
superbowl-o-rama
Adgrunt addicts - Welcome to the Mardi Gras of advertising. Yes it is the Superbowl time of year - and we all know what that means...
Claymore has been toiling away in his secret underground lair, and still is, to give you: The Bestest and Mostest Superbowl Commercial Collection Ever - currently running pert'near every single darn ad shown during the Superbowls from the year 1983 until 2003.
Oh yes, we're working on getting the current Superbowl spots online as well. Meanwhile, get reacquainted with the older gems in the tour down this memory lane.

trackback is here.
all you pinging weblogging adgrunts will be happy to see that yep - we got trackback here thanks to cip our neighbour at bit.ch. go ahead ping us like nuts, and we can ping back. hope ya'll like the new toy.
another way of browsing is here - browse the archive by months and year. That link is tacked to the super search page and the topics page now so ya'll can find it. I made all the pages load fewer articles [default ten] at a time now too so there's less to load - browse and search to find articles from a few days back and use the top fifty page.
just a note I feel I need to say - there is a disclaimer at this site, it's first paragraph explicity states that you shouldn't repost our images and films - or worse, hotlink directly to them - yet this past week thousands of people have. Could ya cut it out? please? what if i say pretty please? *bats eyelashes and sweetens the pretty with sugar* mmmkay? :)
Killing the moreover headlines
As frequent and oldie type adgrunts here know, we've been carrying moreover headlines on its own page /news.php for a few years.
We'll, we decided to dump 'em. The "advertising industry news" you can get from them, you can still get with your various newsgathering agents. We don't think the headlines quality is what it used to be. buh-bye.
First 90% of their headline sites started asking for sign-ups in order to simply read an article. It became hit or miss which ones you could read as you clicked your way through headlines. darn annoying that.....
forum improvement
hey adgrunts. The forum's are back online, quirks have been fixed, and features have been added - feel free to try it out.
nice feature: if you are keen in knowing the nano-second someone replies to any post in your favorite section, you can edit your settings so that you subscribe to the forum. Any new messages will be emailed to you - to the email you registered with and got your password to.
also new : the 'latest links' box on the left shows the latest added links to the adlinks database. Don't forget you can add your portfolio pages there - and your agency.
Absolut Adland
This week the bright red absolute sponsored issue of Ghost magazine is being sent out to Ghost members and submitters.
the disk is back
The IBM disk finally arrived now, so that re-uploading all our 12 gigabytes of film has finally started. It will take a some time unfortunately - super adgrunts - you have all gotten 30 free days on your memberships, so you won't time out while we rebuild. One extra month of commercial surfing to make up for the two weeks of no films. Thanks for your support.
server service
Those of you wondering what is going on with this servers uptime, click continue to see pictures. Super adgrunts need not worry, you've all been credited seven days to catch up on your film-watching.
summer time blues - cure?
It's hot. It's sunny. Everyone has far better things to do than hang around indoors, unless you happen to be in Australia, or stuck inside a hot agency...
I got two toys for the latter group, fire up that color printer down the hall, crack open an agency beer and take advantage of the fact that you CD is on vacation and so is the guy who counts color prints religiously....
why two bucks? (as in €)
the community is free - the commercials are extra.
Hey, this is me, Dabitch (as seen above with the server, acme). I decided to rewrite this completley to avoid any misunderstandings.
All ad-news articles, all Badland articles, all forum messages here are free. Being an adgrunt is free. The community is free.
Access to the commercial-archive - including the 27 years of superbowl commercials - however, isn't. Serving more than thirtythousand ads is very costly for me in bandwidth alone (nevermind hardware!) and after shelling out the sum of decent 17 inch screen every month, since 1999, for the bandwidth from my own personal pocket, I decided in 2002 that it would be better if we all shared the cost.
If several thousand people like the site, then several thousand people can chip in for the sites cost, making it really cheap for all of us! (Instead of a burdon on me alone.. Get it?)
And it will save all of us from selling off our privacy to advertisers and spilling banners all over the place! No ads, No pop-ups, No paid news placements and no sneaky email harvesting for money tactics. All logged in adgrunts live in banner-free heaven. I really hate all that stuff - and I suspect you do too. Sound cool?
Search visually
OOh oooh, this is such a cute new little thing, when searching, the returns that have commercials will flaunt their little screenshot in the search return!
Sweet!
Like when you search on bud, or on peperami... or even just by selecting japanese commercials in the topics..
.. Or why not all the Badland pages in one go, like this.
Well that helps the searching dunnit?
Adland Sells out. To you!
Did I get your attention? Good.
Yes, well lets face it. Bandwidth Costs, and so does producing content. Just like in magazines. This site, runs on a few machines (called acme and apex), and is hooked up to the net 24/7 at some cool ISP's co-location. Naturally, stuff like hardware and co-lo space rent, costs what most call "money".
A lot of it.
It's a real drag yes. 67,000 films where played off the server last month and that amounted to 191 gigabytes of bandwidth more than expected. And the price?
Just about the same as decent 17 inch screen. And that's just one month. I've been forking that out of my own personal pocket since 1999. Like most ladies, I'd rather spend my own money on say, lots of shoes - but I have been paying for this sites survival instead.
Them bills with a lot more gigabytes on it will keep coming every month. I can either turn it off, ask you to chip in , or I could sell my soul to the devil and start popping up banners on parts of your desktop never touched before. *shiver* Having ad-revenue being the only monetary support for a website will make us fall into the trap of the numbers game, posting things specifically to get eyeballs such as topless celebrities and scraped stuff from other sources, instead of actually making a broad archive of all ads and reporting on adnews without Britney Spears in it.
Now that latter suggestion sort of goes against the idea of a site dedicated to the uncensored rantings and ravings of adgrunts, and the educational viewing of old collected commercials (admit it, you love 'em). The other idea, of asking you to pretty please to chip in is pretty much dying too. See, out of 18000 unique visitors on average daily, only two donated a few bucks (and that was way back last year ...).
Aw bugger, we have now arrived at the pay-per-play conclusion. You sign up and log in, you want to watch a film, you'll have to pay a monthly fee.
As a non-paying member, you are still a member, you can read all articles (except anything within the category commmercials), and comment etc, the only difference is that if you pay for a months subscribtion, you see films too. You
will not be paying for the content of watching the films - you are paying for the bandwidth you use while watching the films. Hopefully, two bucks will cover it.
Compare it to borrowing my car, you can borrow it as much as you want, but fill the tank yourself, as you are the one using the gas. ;-)
Do read more...... There's lots more.
Click on those who click on ad-rag
In case you wondered what the banners with visiting IP's and domains is doing up there, they are there to amuse you.
The banners consist of visiting IP's and domains and also lead to their sites. By clicking on the banner, you'll surf another Adland visitors site.
Merry Molldays!
Created this little e-card that you can email to your friends. (yes - you should click "read more" now to see what on earth I'm yakkin' about.)
Yankthechain rambles with Db
Over at Yankthechain.com there is a bunch of interviews from people at this years webzine in New York city. At the bottom of the page I ramble about advertising, this site, and bitch in general, really ;-) .
Then I let the host of yankthechain - Eric - beat me at pinball. I'll never forget the humiliation.
Everything is back to normal - Damn!
we are back! And this is no thanks to Bahnhof.se the internet provider I ordered a line from in late June - to be delivered July 1. Obviously, that didn't happen. The server is back up now thanks to Tatti and Janne from Artech.se, Tatti drove across the country to pick my server up, and Artech delivers. Remember that when you are looking for hosting.
Another day, another skin
I was bored this weekend so I decided it was time to spring clean a little. Now, there is a new skin for Adland - and since maintaining the code in several skins was a bit of a headache - it is also the only skin. Previous users who get funny looking MYSQL jibberish at the top of the page - go straight to USER.PHP and choose "select theme" - after selecting the only theme, you should be fine. Hopefully you wont get funny looking mysql gibberish at the top of the page tho, as I changed ID on the cookies. ;) More new stuff! (read more)
Adlist is Back!
Adlist is back online. All members found deep in a long mailspool and buried in various members adressbooks have lovingly been re-added by hand. :) Yeay!
If I missed any, you can simply subscribe yourselves. It aint pretty - but it works.
Adland leaves ISP from hell
Just to let my visitors know, Adland has had to move this weekend to another server hosted in a safe place. My last ISP was dutchweb.nl and hosting there was not only expensive, but also very unsafe. Commercial-archive and some of the other domains I own might take a few hours to catch up.
