Not only is the "objects of lust" but it*s a sad thing to see when a culture starts to believe that the way they are is not good enough.

I say these folk need some lessons in self-love of their images.

Nice catch. It*s pretty backwards to exploit old cultural mishaps to hawk product. These quotes could have been said in any country though;

Ms Vorimer was particularly critical of the impact the adverts were having on India*s youth.

"They are polluting the minds of the younger generation," she said.

"They think women are the objects of lust - that is a very wrong value.

"Something must be done by the government, and the government has a responsibility to stop all this nonsense."

Here*s another news link to India*s obsession with lighter skin and lighter skin products

But lets not single out India. Vietnamese women are equally obsessed with light skin, too. Maybe the Americans can reverse this trend by importing more episodes of Bay Watch!

... eh, I posted some images that were directly linked [my bad, cry foul, bad bad bad me!] from an indian website where they were hosted. Now I can*t find them again. Oh well. Serves me right, it*s not the way to do things....

fairness cream! Lovely!

Over here - beingan almost see-through pale geek - I battle the scandinavian womens preference for \"tanned\" foundation and creams. Nowhere is there a foundation that matches my pasty-white skintone. So while Indian ladies chemically pale ttheir faces, scandinavian pale girls torch themselves in tanning salons. Seems like the all familiar vanity game...

(images seem to have moved. ops)

I don*t know if it*s a trend, but I do see enough of it in the media. Ad agencies, media companies, Hollywood and Bollywood are all guilty of Photoshop-ing people to create a false \"ideal\". The beautiful people are air-brushed light, while people portrayed as criminals are darkened (i.e. O.J. Simpson in Newsweek Magazine).
