a bit of both - the agency was tying up all the writers on broschoures so I was often working on my own, then I nabbed a nice AD and we started churning out stuff. The agency liked it and we got to play together on more briefs.

In other agencies i gotten hired with another AD, we just never revealed who was the *writer* (Gotta love the title creative). I*m a pretty wordy AD and my partner at the time was that as well. We took turns playing the writer on projects. wink

A minibook is cool, but you might miss out on their *first fresh comment* of whats in it. DO a DM mailer about you directed to why-you-fit-X-agency.

art directors are a dime a dozen. wink no i*m kiddin*, but the phenomenon of having a hard time finding a CW isn*t new, I too hunted high and low for CW*s when I was a single AD and had very little response. Spent most of my years in a two-conceptual-art-directors teamup, which actually works just fine.

As for the book-showing, I*d take the suprise the CD or senior team (if the CD doesn*t have time as they usually don*t) route - suprise them with a spiffy "selling yourself" DM piece where you ask for a few humble moments of their time so that they they can tell you exactly how crap your book is. wink Pick out all the ads you like in the CA annual, Archive and ththe likes, and try to get an audience with the team behind said ad - if you like their work, chances are you*ll like their input too. smile

arriving unnnounced never ever works.

Do a nice letter, or a kind of DM piece specific for X team or CD at agency X, and then follow up with a call (even though you naturally leave all ways of contacting you in the DM, they*ll never call you). Then keep calling until you get a moment with them. It works, but have patience, and be dead creative on the letter/DM piece.

OK! I know the economy is crappy. And I actually do have a job - a crappy one, but it pays.

I want to show my book to some small but good agencies. They don*t have Creative managers. Should I just call them up and say, "Hey, Will you look at my book and tell me if it*s crap?"

Or should I just show up there and say "Hey, Will you look at my book and tell me if it*s crap?"

Or should I do the passive thing and mail a book?

Basicly, i am trying to meet people and make my book better at the same time. I find that Creative managers don*t give me the kind of feed back I need.

I*m just So confused!

Second question for the great Ad Masses.

I Am trying to find a Copywriter i can work with on some new book pieces. Posted here, craigs list and with my Ad School, and I*ve gotten no results. Seems Art directors Are A Dime a dozen and copywriters are hard to come by. Any sugestions. grin
