This is wierd. most students in my school are AD and are desparately looking for CW. (i do too) I have great visual and concept and all i need is a short copy that would tie it all together. I am great with photoshop, illustrator and indesign. I used to be a graphic designer as well until this year. It would be great to work together.

I am looking to team up with aspiring or working copywriters to create some great ad concepts, I am working as a graphic designer in a marketing firm right now but plan to go back to school next year for art direction, let me know if you are interested.

Thank you for the input Robblink--I was thinking in that direction as well. I am already trying to filter my concepts through a *reality* sieve--as in, *how much photoshop magic can *I* realistically sprinkle on the top of this puppy..)
It just hurts to be hobbled like this already--aren*t we supposed to save the soul-crushing constraints for AFTER ad school? )
I work and go to school full time--there isn*t much weekend to my weekend, but I suppose the photoshop classes will be something to rock when I*m out of the *one year* school program
I think every copywriter comes out of portfolio school looking for an art director. What I did was take Photoshop classes on the weekends. It was enough to help me fix my portfolio and get me my first job. I think a lot of junior writers take up the Do It Yourself route.
Hello,
I*m in one of these *snort and you miss it* quick portfolio programs--I will apparently be ready to go in a year or so. Unfortunately, our AD/CW ratio is about 4/1, and the few art directors don*t really have design experience. We*re all scrambling as we go along, but it is understandably easier to translate a lifetime of writing into copywriting than it is to intuitively grasp kerning and quark.
So. I have a lot of comps--many of them visually based--and no where to go. I have seen from award books that while design isn*t going to make a bad idea good, a good idea has no chance in hell without really amazing design. Does anyone have any advice for getting these comps made?
Can I contact other schools and see if they have classes lopsided in the other direction? Is that playing fair? I don*t see anyone wanting to work on something that wasn*t partially their concept in the first place. I could hire a graphic designer, but I don*t have that much money, and am fuzzy on the overall ethics of such a move. Ok, check that-- I*m going into advertising, so I*m mainly just concerned with the money. wink Would a GD be willing to hammer out some art for $50-100?
Anyway, advice or clucks of sympathy greatly appreciated.
