Hello!
I*m meeting with a CD tomorrow--it isn*t explicitly an interview (I*m still in school--portfolio*s not quite done) but it*s more than a casual chat. The CD has let me know he*s interested in finding a JC a.s.a.p., so this may be step one.
I*ve only worked in admin in the past, and dressed in a suit for any interviews. I*m worried this will be overkill (I know most in the office are very casual--and this includes the director.) On the other hand, I don*t want to look sloopy or apathetic.
Should I dress casually as well? Try to be trendy?
I should also note that I live in a hot city, and most women are wearing dresses and sandels.
THANK YOU! confused
What is your style in general?
See, I suited up for interviews more often than not - but always in my style. Examples pepita-checkered (thats b/w 60s) waisted suit with skinny pants and an open collared lime green glittery shirt. So mary quant. Or bold blood red tonic suit with ticket pocket, black shirt. So mobster in the west end. Black long Armani suit jacket with very wide pants, suede vest, thin red tie that matches lipstick and if available, 1950s hat. So zoot suit.
Yeah ok so I dress like a damn cartoon carachter. Point being, if it*s your style you can be dressed in a wedding dress and not be overdressed for an interview. You should dress like YOU, just a tad cleaner than your everyday (because you don*t know how casual the office until you get there and you want to make a good clean impression).
Don*t go all punk torn t-shirt and jeans just because the stereotype dictates it if that*s not what is in your wardrobe.
My only personal rule was "no skirts at job interviews". Because I tend to wear them shorter than belts. Or I did, back when I had killer thighs and a large collection of knee high leather boots. lol
thank you Dabitch! I*m in the midwest, and I*m guessing anything glittered or zooty (yes it*s a word. now.) would knock them out of their seats. It*s good to know, though, that the Anne Klein suit would put them to sleep.
I *do* have knee high leather boots, and I*m not afraid to use them!
