I've been seeing some fun and funny usernames around recently. New adgrunts, I guess. There seems to be a lot of different ways to choose usernames around here. Not the usual "missy1256" or similar that you see on other sites.

- Real name (common here, and I applaud that even if I don't dare)

- Initials

- Funny ad quips like "makethelogobigger" or "truthinadvertising"

- lots of "ad" something variations (I'm guilty.)

- puns

- numbers like  5277 logged on right now. I admit that I don't understand that.

Why is your adgrunt user name what it is?

Ha! That's great, I never asked you, and it's been years! Now I finally know. Can you dig up a copy of Blink and bring to show and tell over here? ;)

Mine is a combination of my first name Rob and the short-lived advertising 'zine (yeah, I know, very '90s) I created called blink. It was all about the fast ad news that people miss people when they blink.

Not you of course, you're way to cool for random chatter and that sort. To cool for school, or even too cool to comment on a long dead thread out of fiftythousand possible topics, that didn't interest you anyway..... Oh wait.

I use one of those "ad- something" usernames too. The main reason is that this is an "all about ads" type of forum. I don't like to use any references to my real name on forums, and usually I attach some number to the end in case the base username is already taken.

Mine is Mets, which is the New York Mets-my favorite baseball team. 82 is the year I was born. I just chose a username that was a) available and b) easy to remember.

5277 is a human, and that captcha stopped the spambots from making lots of fake accounts which was becoming a real problem before - so yeah back then random number strings or letter strings were a typical sign. These days spammers do all the work by hand and then I delete them and ban their IP#. ;P

Could the names consisting of random numbers be spam bots? Sounds like something they'd do...

(shrug) It's my name. I go by Robbie in most forums, but it was already taken here.

Mine is my first name, and the number 1.

I use the name in several other forums. In some I use Allan_1 or Allan44. Easy to remember, easy to find an available user ID - usually.

Allan...

DDT - actually the way I first read your name when I first saw it. I have a tendency to read stuff backwards. Not as bad as a pal of mine though who even says stuff backwards and keeps calling my daughter "electric rope" because that's what Perle backwards is in Swedish. ;)

My username is a gamer name that was given to me in the dark gamer hall where I routinely kicked all the boys ass (except R.A.T.'s, as he taught me to play so he could actually win over me unlike the other guys). I think it came up this way:

*blam*
-"what the!? Who shot me in the head? *respawns*
*trips on mine placed on respawning spot, dies*
- WHAT THE HELL!?" *respawns*
*blam HEADSHOT!*
(etc - repeat respawning into mines at least ten times)
-"BITCH!! WHO DID THAT?"
All guys look away from screen and point to me giggling in the corner -"That bitch. The Bitch."
Since I was the only girl in there, they simply shortened it. (to fit the character limit of the game as I recall - I had a saved avatar and several maps drawn in my honor)

Administrator is not me. I don't know who it is. Strange choice.

A tiny amount of people here have changed their names after fearing their employer might know which one of the adgrunts was them. (I can do that for anyne who wants it and offer it to everyone who sign up with their email account as their name as that's a less than wise choice.) Not cool if you rip your Creative Directors work and then he figures out it was you. I'd rather have honest opinions without fear of the pink slip as long as the person isn't acting like a troll. I understand that it's difficult to vent about specific clients of accounts in the big world of multinational agencies and so on, for a long time Dabitch was never connected to my real name and the freedom that came with that was great.

Other people simply sign up again and have a "sock puppet" rip their creative directors work. I'm not sure I think that's cool, but I have been amused by some sockpuppetry. Just remember, I know who you are.

Mine is my initials.

When I first registered, I was here only for the ads. I didn't care about some great username because I didn't think I would be here much, or for long.

For some reason, I started to post and became quite active here with my nonsensical messages, and doing such things as posting a reply to your question when nobody cares what my user name means.

My initials backwards are DDT. That's kind of cool.
