  • yup, ad is very subjective. but if u wanna see some good work out there, check out the art publications like communication arts, archive magazine, cmyk, print, creativity, graphis and the list goes on. there is some shitty work in there (so use your own judgement), but for the most part, after flipping through all these mags, youll get an idea of whats good.

  • you should check this forum. theres a discussion on the top ad schools in the US. as for univ of florida and georgia....dunno anything about them in terms of good portfolio schools. tho in atlanta theres an ad school called portfolio center which is pretty good. and in miami, theres miami ad school. vcu is pretty hot too, and so is art center college of design in pasadena, ca. i would say portfolio center, vcu and art center are pretty up there. ud come out getting a decent book. now it just depends on whether youd wanna live in atlanta, richmond or pasadena. honestly, in terms of conceptual work and innovation (and location), id go with art center. and whats cool is that this school has all design majors and you get to take classes and work with photo, film, graphics, product, transportation, and all the other design majors they have there. and on top of that, art center is one of the best design schools in the nation, if not world.

  • MAS is a pretty decent school. dunno bout the sf loc. i honestly think miami would be the best location. also, i would try academy of art in sf....i know they have an ad prog. if you wanna stay in cali, i would def try art center in pasadena. theyre consistently always cranking out good stuff. and the faculty there is world renown. the only thing about art cetner is that ull be getting a BFA, not an MFA. IMO, it doesnt really matter what kind of degree ur getting. some schools offer masters, some dont. the only difference is the name of the degree. but all these ad schools prep u the same way. but yeah, if ur serious bout ad, check out art center. www.artcenter.edu whats dope about AC is that u work with all the other design majors- industrial, transportation, photo, illustration, film, graphics, etc. and u make major long-term connections. notable alum- roland young, lou danziger, james miho, tim burton, thomas kinkade, michael bay, sofia coppola, mark ryden, etc................

  • i had a list of the top ad schools from a 2004 issue of creativity. they didnt list the rankings though, just the top schools. also, i spoke to alot of creative directors and in THEIR opinion, the overall consensus was that they were more likely to hire students from those 3 specific schools art center, vcu, sva. but then again, thats just their opinion.
