Audi A5 Suicide vs Citroën Suicide by car: Carbon monoxide poisoning isn't what it used to be

There's a spec ad running around the web right now, touting the clean emissions from the Audi A5 by demonstrating a mans failed suicide attempt. You must have seen it, even AgencySpy showed it off. Would be good for the spec director and/or creative team if the credits ran around the web with it.

However, the idea isn't all that new. Back in 2002 there was a spec ad touting the clean emissions from a Citroen, directed by the king of dark comedy Brian Baderman.

Citroen - Suicide - (2002) :45 (UK)

The Audi "krass" spec commercial:
Audi A5 - Suicide / Krass - (2009) :60 SPEC

Please note: SPEC work means that the ad was not bought by or approved by Audi

Hold up! one more suicide by car - this idea was done as far back as 1997

Brian Baderman did a much better job. His ad is dark comedy, while the Audi one is not funny at all. Considering the topic of suicide is a hot button, it has to be outrageous like the Citroen ad. Adding to that, the AUDI brand never does funny ads, they are always serious, so it is way off in tone of voice for the brand.

Yeah, like Paul Lavoie said:

"That brand would never speak that way. You're speaking that way. You're imposing as a creative person that kind of language onto a brand who would never do it.

The Audi ad looks like a US job. I base this assumption on the end scene, which I think is meant to be funny.

Hmmmmm... That's a good point, anyone see anything in the video that reveals what country it might be from? Parking garages have "P" as letters in the states too, right?

We're all chatting under the audi vs citroen post, meanwhile it's the spec film alone that tours the web and is retweeted like hell. :))

my dad is the best fucking ad director on the planet.
