Instagram launches "quote tweet" style re-sharing of stories.

On Instagram you can soon complement or trash talk other people’s Stories, or refer to something you posted previously with an embed a “see post” button. Yep, it's like the "quote tweet reply", but now on Instagram for stories. The feature is currently being tested on a small group of users before general roll-out.

Instagram has never had a true “regram” feature, but lots of unofficial and sometimes scammy ad-riddled apps have offered the feature. On Instagram users have developed a language of screenshotting posts, to share in their own stories often with overlaid comments. An official reshare feature could change user behaviour as now their commenting will not be as limited as this is. The possibility for brands to re-share their own stories or content that they have sponsored may entice more ad dollars to stay on the platform. Regramming to drive extra Likes and comments to posts could help brands gain more visibility in Instagram’s feed ranking algorithm.

Users who do not want to be "regrammed" in this fashion will have the option to turn the feature off in the settings, and naturally, only public post can be reshared. Quote-storying may allow creators to get viral traction on posts by asking fans to share it, rather than screenshot & share, it's so much easier to just click a button. Instagram has allowed people to share other people's posts in private and group messages, it currently lacks other ways to re-sharing. WIth this Instagram hopes to stay on top of Snapchat that doesn't have features like Super Zoom and Highlights. With this new feature users will hopefully stay longer in the app socialising with friends and interacting with stories, which means ka-ching in advertising dollars.
