Dolce & Gabbana - Kisses - (2007) :30 (USA)

Some people like to use the contact form just to complain to me about ads. As if that's gonna help. Example from CAROL, yesterday:

"I find the current D&G ads showing two guys/two girls kissing each other (same sex) totally offensive. I change the channel every time. I'm certain I'm not the only one. What’s up with that?"

Just for that, I'm posting the commercial. See, it's not the same gender snogging, it's the same person snogging. The ultimate narcissist! They say metrosexuals are. So, good news! You're not homophobic, you're egophobic.

Well, all I can say is that as a native New Yorker, I'm delighted that this ad was shot in NYC where we have no problem kissing ourselves or people of either sex.

That is so obviously a planted buzz-builder from CAROL. Face the fact - when your ooh-soo-edgy commercials run during an MTV pseudo-reality dating show composed mostly of bisexuals dry humping each other for fame and fortune, then by comparison, your commercials are tame and lame.

Feigning outrage with the hopes of it becoming a news story for some free exposure is a lazy and desperate act and done way too often nowadays to be of much benefit. People's bullshit detectors are more accurate than ever before.

Bottom line: The marketing strategy for D&G is as tired as the brand itself. If this sad approach continues (remember the gang rape ad?), it's just a matter of time before D&G crap is found only in the clearance bins at T.J. Maxx.

So go ahead, D&G - give CAROL her check for $1,000 for a job sadly done.

Self love is so outrageous. Bah.

Gosh, remember the good old days when we all weren't so dang jaded? Yah, neither do I.

I do remember when public outrage over certain controversial commercials used to be spontaneous and real rather than seeded and shat.

Or at least they were better at making it seem that way.

These D&G ads aren't notorious. They're plastic, disposable and quickly forgettable.

I'm old enough to remember when we all weren't so jaded. It was back in the late 1960's - by the 1970's, it was gone....

Then, we realized what idiots we'd been, and how duped we were....

(BTW, I can actually remember all of the 60's and 70's - regardless of any illicit material I may or may not have ingested or been in contact with. [Of course I didn't!] I can also remember back to 3 weeks before my 3rd birthday. I have a quirky memory.)

According to some online sources, the first gay kiss on American national television took place in 1992 - the 1st ep. of the 1st season of MTV's Real World). For being controversial, this campaign is about 15 years late out of the gate.

(Not sure when the first kissing-yourself took place though.)

Beware the lollipop of mediocrity. One lick and you'll suck forever.

My initial comment was really just a joke.  We New Yorkers really aren't that self obsessed.  :-)

Hey Yall. Well I dont understand why everyone is so upset with these ads. The models are kissing themselves! Ya its kinda gay, but its all about Self-Love. Everyone, regardles of sexuality can relate. Plus the music is pretty good. This is the first D&G ad I like in a looooonnnng time. Enjoy!

I don't see what the fuss is about either, BaciBaci has it right it's all about self-love.
