JibJab files suit against Toyota for using dead presidents

JibJab sues Toyota for using dead presidents. That's what I understand from reading the suit found at Courthousenews. The Toyota ads were created by Hoffman Lewis and ran this spring, while the rapping founding fathers were created by the brothers Even and Gregg Spriridellis way back in 2000. The complaint reads that the Toyota presidents sale graphic style is far too similar to JibJabs own logo - or "nearly identical". And the animation "incorporated elements identical and/or substantially indistinguishable from" Jibajabs animations "Presidents Rap" and Starring You Tap Dance, both of which are registered with the United States copyright office.

What does the court of public opinion think? Lets watch, shall we?

Not close enough, in my opinion. Inspiration, maybe. Not theft.

So. then can we say maybe JibJab should be sued by Tanqueray's Mr. Jenkins?
