Ad campaign against Murdoch

As US media laws face deregulation MoveOn.org , Common Cause, and Free Press are beind a campaign that hopes to alert the public to the dangers of deregulation.
The television adverts can be viewed at Moveon's site, and the press ads that ran in New York times and other papers can be downloaded as .pdf.

"Murdoch wants more. Much more," the campaign warns. "Unless we act now Rupert Murdoch is going to get his way."

From the Guardian;

"Fox News, though winning the most viewers, also attracted the most criticism for its unquestioning backing of the war. "Fox News clearly took an aggressive stance supporting the war and refused to look at the consequences," said Eli Pariser, campaigns director at MoveOn.org. "Throughout Fox there is very clearly a political agenda and it doesn't seem a coincidence that it is the one that Rupert Murdoch personally shares."

"A diverse and competitive media is an essential part of a working democracy," he added. "The whole idea is predicated on an informed cit izenship. People are very upset at the idea of news controlled by a very few companies with noxious political positions." "

I'm not much of an activist but I just sent a little email from MoveOn to some friends. I realized last night, during a drunken discussion, that most people don't understand what the proposed rule changes actually mean. Radio sucks now, it's going to suck even worse later... and clients: you think you're being held hostage by ad rates now! Just wait until you really have nowhere else to go.

As I said then and will say again... it's probably too little too late. Note in this week's AdWeek that Clear Channel (in an ad) brags that they reach 75% of consumers in one way or another.

And the funny part about it is that FOX News claims they have unbiased news reports...Please! If I'm ever flipping through the channels and I hear that on their self-promo clip it makes me want to throw rocks at the screen. Shouldn't the FCC be taking action with the fact that they are blatently lying about being unbiased? Just my opinion. Then again I think the whole FOX group, conglomerate or whatever has turned into a steaming pile of poo during the last few years.

What's even more rock-worthy? Hearing conservative pundits (continue to) whine about evil creeping liberal bias in the media.

What really made me want to retch was, I think it was either Peggy Noonan or that Coulter wench, smarmily noting on MSNBC yesterday that at least the conservative publications etc. are up front about being conservative whereas the liberals pretend to be bias-free. Actually, I think it was Peggy (probably cranky because the reviews of her new book aren't that great).

eearggh!!!
