Want to smell like a celebrity?

Since it's not so achieve a life of fame and fortune, at least now you can smell like the celebrities you love.

Traditionally we've seen celebs just hawking scent like the recent Chanel No. 5 spot with Nicole Kidman. And there's always more of a push for fragrance around this time of year.

(read on)

But now, you can smell like your favorite pop diva:

Celin Dion:

Skanky JLo:

Diva JLo:

Britney:

Or if you're more of a Jessica Simpson girl you could wear this:

Even actresses are getting in on the fun, like Liv Tyler:

Prefer smelling like your plastic idols? Then perhaps Barbie is for you:

And men, don't feel left out, you can smell like the fabulous Antonio Banderas! ;)

There are loads others too, including Paris Hilton, Beyonce, Donald Trump, Alan Cummings, Kim Cattrall, and soon Maria Sharapova. There must be money to be made for all these folks to jump on the scent bandwagon.

Mike Pearson at RockyMountainNews.com was perplexed at Trump entering the scent market.

What's new is the amount of money to be made from these vanity vapors. Celine Dion's scents have sold roughly $10 million this year, while J.Lo's Glow and Still are past the $200 million mark. This may seem like small change given the American fragrance industry's $3 billion in annual revenues, until you note a 3 percent decline in perfume sales in recent years. The right celebrity can cause beauty products to fly off shelves.

So why bother just shilling the scent when you can make a profit off it too.

I wonder when we'll see Donny come out with a fragrance. *wink*

My GOD this celeb fetish has gone too far.

Chanel/Kidman - Did they just airbrush everything to look as flat as that old lady depend diaper powder stinks?

TASTE for Jessica Simpson? Is that ironic? It is isn't it. Please tell me.

Do I dare to be hit one more time with the repungent smell of Britney? No.

How old is that Barbie girl? That one really bothers me. Girls should smell like grass stains, horses and bubble gum fer cryin' out loud. Jeez, I must be getting old. It probably does smell like that.

Awesome post! I bet we start seeing a bunch of parodies soon too... wasn't there some automotive guerilla work that sold the "new car smell" in a bottle? If not, there should be.

Dabitch's picture

Yeah I could have sworn I saw a bottle of new car smell spray being advertised on TV... In Cadillacs, it's enhanced by a distilled industrial perfume called "Nuance." NY (reg req.) , (archive abstract)
But watch out! that new car smell has been linked to cancer!

Yeah great post Caffeinegoddess.

The Antonio Banderas one just kills me, look at his pose at the bottom right. Do ya think he's sexy?/Rod Stewart. Gag me.

And Celine can't sell anything. Not cars, not perfume. Stop using her already.

You think it might be because the people who buy perfume around the holidays are generally of the opposite sex and clueless as to which perfume smells like which? Then the celeb give some clues: "my girl gets her hair done like Britney Spears, she'll probably not hate this one" or "I wish my guy was sexy with big collars like Antonio, so I'll buy this, squirt, and pretend."

Or maybe it's a sign that the new generation of perfume buyers feel disconnected from the cosmetic/design house brands of the past and need a different cue?

Neaner's picture

The cue being "brand" stars? Perhaps.

Did you see the Britney Spears commercial for her perfume as well?

Speaking of Britney - did you hear the
Brithey Spears Perfume (radio) ad spoof
? It's like.. truth in advertising.. mebbe. ;) [thanks cafemuse]
