Director and cinematographer Sean Thonson has just released "The Wild Within," new work for Destination British Columbia showcasing the incredibly diverse and beautiful geography of Canada's westernmost province. That moving view from the high mountain, with the sprawling city below is really impressive.
Dare President, ECD Richard Hadden explains that “The Wild Within” connects with our deep, collective desire to return to the wild.
"People feel an affinity with natural settings and there’s a visceral understanding of this in the work. The spot is targeted to people who are interested in authentic experiences rather that just spending a week on the beach.
The commercial is set to break during the Canada Winter Games opening February 13th, part of a campaign marketing British Columbia both domestically and internationally as a tourist location.
Dare Digital, Vancouver created the :30 spot, where the photography does all the selling. You have coastal mountains, lush forests, mirrorlike lakes and the ridgelines of the Rockies, all of this captured by the director over a 4-day shoot that was logistically hard to pull off. “It's such a large province that it became challenging logistically,” Sean Thonson explains. “Being so vast I shot additional footage during scouts to take advantage of good light and unique locations as the light never repeats itself, even if you find the time to return.”
“British Columbia is an awe inspiring province but we’ve seen directors turn that into vanilla,” adds Hadden on Thonson’s eye. “It was an incredibly satisfying experience working with that kind of vision, with someone so personally invested in the image. He’s a dynamo at what he does.”
