It reminds me of a Sesame Street "mouse trap" segment. It was live action and not animation and I believe the ball was spinning around teaching numbers.
Reminds me of a non-animated segment on the old Captain Kangaroo show where a Rube Goldbergesque machine eventually made a nice breakfast complete with toast and eggs. They did a similar thing in Pee Wee's Big Adventure, only more Pee Wee-ish.
It is from a segment of either Sesame Street or The Electric Company -- one where a live-action baker would announce "[some number of] [confectionary such as cakes]" and proceed to trip down a stairs. then the pinball segment would start with music similar to that in the South Park spot and after about :50 of rolling through metal tracks would result in 3 eggs turning into 3 piles of something that looked like cocoa powder. I seem to recall the baker in this case talking about three cakes so it may be that this was one of the clips on a Sesame Street episode sponsored by the number Three...
A-hah! I think we might have a winner here with this one. Last night I was thinking about it and trying to figure out what show it might have been and I did ponder the fact that it could have been Sesame Street. They also had a pinpall-esque thing about numbers that was very "70s" and kinda trippy that would change for each number but I don't think that is it. I think this is the one. Good memory markw!
