Telekinetic Coffee Shop Surprise - Carrie stunt (2013)

You know, one of these days someone will have an actual heart attack while one of these advertising stunts is pulled off. What do we call these hidden camera stunts again? Prankvertising? What if telekinesis was real? How would you react? Well, judging by some folks who wandered into this café in New York, you're very likely to pull out your cellphone and start filming the whole thing. What if that lady with the phone had uploaded her footage to the web... would that have been like a commercial for the commercial? It's so meta it makes my head hurt.

DB Export Gold "Fire at the old Well" (2013) 1:00 (New Zealand)

You could see the gag coming a mile away, but it's still funny. Kind of reminds of some Bud Light spots when they were in their prime.

The difference is, this one's a heck of a lot more ironic and dry and the music is very silly indeed.

I'm sure the creative team who came up with this knows at least one person like this at their shop. We all have them. They do as little as possible. They're the ones who are always on the foosball table, or playing video games. While you bust your hump.

"Crush The Speed" (2013) 1:30 (Russia)

Russian insurance company Alfa Strakhovanie has its work cut out for it. To raise awareness that a lot (and I mean a lot ) of accidents happen resulting in fatalities, agency Hungry Boys cam up with Crush The Speed. This road safety campaign uses cars previously involved in fatal road accidents as markers. Using Google Maps, the public can decide where these deadly warning signs are positioned round the city. I guess by donating their old beat up cars, or picking where the worst offending intersections are.

Eating a lot isn't cheating on your diet.

In Episode two of this Reality spoof, Caught In The Act, a turtle neck wearing dude is enlisted by two women to insult their friend because they by assume she's cheating on her diet.

I'll wait while you read that sentence a second time.

It turns out it's all a big misunderstanding because vegetables! It doesn't count as overeating! Because vegetables! Why do I have a weird feeling nutrition experts would disagree?

Green Giant "Caught in the Act" (2013) 2:00 (USA)

It's a misdirect spot, done in reality TV style à la "Cheaters."

One one hand this gets a couple props. The casting is well done. And it's nice to see them trying something new beyond the Green Giant nostalgia of my youth. Although I liked that nostalgia, to be honest. At least they didn't rip a page from Crispin and turn the Green Giant into a creepy dude who shows up at your door leering at you and brandishing his green bean nibs in a salacious way.

Considering where they've been I guess this is meant to be edgy or something.

Toyota Camry SE - Toyota Camry Thrill Ride - (2013) :60 (USA)

A Toyota Camry. Not the most exciting automobile, is it? Well you're wrong, at least that's what I gather from this demonstration idea that turned a short drive in a Camry into a roller coaster type ride worthy of Magic Mountain. People are thrilled to be swooshing up, down, sideways and in - oh my - reverse. Looks like it was a fun ride with a "professional driver, do not attempt", but better still are the genuinely squee-surprised reactions from people who did not expect this. Everybody say weee!
