UFCW International "Real Change" (2015) :30 (USA)

The UFCW International wants to unionize Walmart and they want the Democrat Presidential candidates (okay the republicans get a token mention here, too) to help make this a reality. It's a little creepy how these employees former or otherwise are calling out the candidates by name. A little too conversational for such a serious tactic, especially when the one of the guys affects a Jewish accent when he says "Bernie!" which I find mildly offensive. What I find interesting is that two of the talking heads in this Choddy aren't even WalMart employees. They're former WalMart employees. Are you seriously trying to tell me you couldn't find current employees with current grievances?

Perhaps it's more like they can't find interested parties. The facts are union members are at their lowest membership in America in nearly a century. The Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2013 put that number at just 11.3% -- down from 11.8 in 2011. Don't kid yourself. Unions are big business, too. They're looking at WalMart employees as a bumper crop of potential dues payers. Its in their best interest to get retail on board.

Think that's too cynical? Consider this: Unions have already turned to the nascent marijuana industry to increase its membership. So much so that UFCW members canvassed in Colorado to make sure they could get the pro-pot vote. There are now 3,000 union members in the cannabis industry. Remember that marijuana isn't legal across the entire country. Guess it's never too late to start increasing those numbers.
