Hey everyone, some site-tinkering going on here (as usual). I've added a special category in the adland topics, banned ads. Whenever we do a story on ads that are banned or about to be banned, it'll be in there. The traffic sign symbol is your friend when you are looking for that type of news.
- clicking on a topic symbol brings up a search for everything in that topic.
The search engine is still your pal, when you super search you can find other banned ads that are in the commercial archive simply by searching on the word "banned" and excluding the banned ads topic from your search. With that you'll find things like the wrigleys dog breath ad, the Subaru banned bunny spot and the not quite banned but controversial ads like Guccis' close shave and that Sophie Dahl ad that offended everyone including paypal.
Other stuff, I made the adland topics page a little easier on the eye, I've linked the adlinks from the top menu bar so more people will find it, and I have yet again added stuff to the Frequently Asked Questions page.....
I'm considering killing all skins but this default one - as it's hard to keep up with updates on so many skins.... There's a bug in the old colored skins like the Orange skin where if a user comments, the comment won't appear until you click on the headline of the article - thus reloading the "short url" of the article, where the comment does appear. I haven't been able to fix it, and just had an urge to throw all that old stuff out. ;)
Would many people here be very unhappy if I stopped with the "choose your own skin" option of the site? When I first started with it, it was to accommodate for members that might be on dial-up who could choose a skin designed for ease of load - called Extralight. Years have passed and rarely anyone on dial-up surfes here these days, so perhaps it's time to remove the feature? Very few out of the 35,000 members use it.....
I would really appreciate some input on this from regulars who hang out here , I'd like to hear what y'all think about the preferences on your account. Perhaps you have ideas and wishlists of things you'd like? Someone suggested a way to bookmark favorite ads here, I've been thinking about it, but doesn't the commenting on ads and rating ads serve as that?
Your best and worst rated ads are listed on your user page which is at http://adland.tv/~yourusername , (see username anonymous) your name in the upper left corner is a link to it when you are logged in. Your preferences are always at "You!" - http://adland.tv/user.php - when you are logged in.
