Drafthouse movie theatre makes 'keep cellphone off' PSA out of audience member
Spotted over at Workthatmatters we find the stern warning : "Remember not to text at the Alamo", and at Yahoo : "Texas movie theater makes an example (and a PSA) of a texting audience member".
What's this? A movie theatre in Austin that bans all use of cellphones, including texting? Great place! Better still, when a little lady who got kicked out for texting got angry about this, and phoned the theatre to complain about getting kicked out, Drafthouse made it the ultimate anti-texting pre-movie PSA. You don't want to be like this girl. She was warned. Twice, even.
Drafthouse explains:
We do not tolerate people that talk or text in the theater. In fact, before every film, we have several warnings on screen to prevent such happenings. Occasionally, someone doesn't follow the rules, and we do, in fact, kick their asses out of our theater. This video is an actual voicemail from a woman that was kicked out of one of our Austin theaters. Thanks, anonymous woman, for being awesome.
More at that Yahoo link, seems Drafthouse have been having fun with their tongue-in-cheek PSAs for a while now.
One PSA from 2005 stars the late Texas Gov. Ann Richards, who is called in (via the red phone no less) to deal with a rowdy patron. She tosses him out of the theater to the applause of those waiting in line to purchase tickets. "Don't talk during the movie," the ad concludes "or Ann Richards will take your ass out." League says that Richards approached the theater about doing the spot. "She lived in Austin at the time, and was a total movie junkie, she'd let us know she was coming, would call the manager, and would slip into shows at the last minute. She came to us, 'I'm really offended that you haven't asked me to do one of your PSAs!'"
Richards' late-arriving ways meant that patrons would sometimes see her PSA on screen, and then be surprised by the former governor slipping into the seat next to them.
And how's this for some site-related oddness... as I was only thinking about making this post, this Ann Richards Doritos ad kept popping up in the "related posts" list. Ghosts in the machine.

Wow. A movie PSA that warms my soul. The Drafthouse post has only 2363 comments. Don't think I will read them all.
