Gaaaaaawd, Fedex sucks. Somewhere in Europe someone decided to use Fedex to send us their reel(s), which is great and normally we simply get a package (usually by post rather than fedex), open it, convert it and post the films on the sites. Ta-dah!
When we moved our office, we moved to a place where the door to the street is locked (not uncommon), thus Fedex needs to either a) call us, b) know the code for the door or c) hang the package on the door (which is not done for obvious reasons). So, back then we went through the trouble of faxing, mailing and handing over a copy of a paper that gave our authorization to call us (!!) when any fedex package arrives so that we may step the five steps out of the office here and open the dang door for Fedex. Seriously, the door is exactly five steps away from where I sit. They don't even knock!
I don't know what Fedex did with these copies of our authorization, but they seem to have promptly lost it as I just got a text message (proving that they indeed have my number still) saying they've tried to deliver a package and I must call to tell them when they can come with it. Dudes, how about right now?
So I call Fedex, and find out that they have "tried to deliver three times" to us already, no notes have been left on the door so there was no indication that they had (else I would have called fedex, of course) and that the package might be going back to its sender (who it is is still unknown to me) unless they can arrange a drop-off tomorrow. Sure you can drop it off tomorrow, you could in fact have dropped it off on the previous three tries had you phoned the number as per the authorization forms instructions that I've given Fedex. The woman at Fedex customer care said that they have no trace of such an authorization, or she can't see it. I sarcastically said "well, if you keep loosing those forms maybe I should instruct people to not use Fedex when sending packages to us." She replied: "Maybe you should."
Well okay then. Do not use Fedex when you send packages of tapes to Adland. They simply suck and will not deliver your package overnight or whatever the hell they are charging you for. It is a pure waste of money for you and a constant hassle for me. Happy now, Fedex?

Yea... Customer service is lacking in lots of places nowadays. I've heard some crazy horror stories about bad service...
The reply from the customer service person really made my jaw drop. What the hell?
What really grates me about Fedex is that I should know about every package that is sent here and have its tracking number ready. What!? Whatever happened to simply sending people stuff without having to also email them tracking numbers and crap? I don't know when people Fedex us things, I don't expect every package that arrives. Why must I know this when someone uses Fedex? What am I psychic? We get tons of mail every day.
Now I know who the package is from:
Wow Fedex, you suck suck suck. You have my phonenumber since you texted me to let me know you tried to deliver something. HelloooOOoooOO?
Not the first time I've seen the combination "Fedex" and "sucks" here on adland when talking about Fedex and not just their ads: They must really suck.
Is this the bitch about Fedex thread? I once made the mistake of using them to send work to an award show half-way across the planet, and I drove way out of the city to reach Fedex headquarters and drop my package off there to ensure getting on that nights flight since it was after inner-city pickup time. I paid extra to ensure that it would get to Australia by Wednesday afternoon - this was Friday.
I found that my entry never made it to the award on time as it got stuck in Canberra, Australia when it was meant for Melbourne for some strange reason. They received my entry on Thursday so I was disqualified for the award (but my entry fee had already been paid.) Thanks Fedex. You truly suck.
Wow, I thought Fedex only sucked in Europe. Sorry to hear that.
Well, I'm about to find out. The company that pays me is going to start using FedEx to send me my money.
This is hopefully an improvement over sending it by US Postal Service. We'll see....
Over the past year, my check, mailed on a Thursday, and dated Friday, was received by me Monday or Tuesday one third of the time, and Saturday or Sunday the rest of the time. [Sent to my PO Box, which is the second largest size box available].
If I get it on Saturday and if I deposit it immediately (as a split-cash deposit), it gets credited on Monday night-Tuesday morning. If I get it on Tuesday and deposit it the same way, it gets credited on Wednesday, or possibly Thursday. (This would mean that my pay, which already reflects work done 2 and 3 weeks earlier, not last week; would be delayed 6 days more!!! WTF?!?!
I'll let everyone know whether or not it comes on time.
IT ARRIVED ON TIME! Even earlier than anticipated (by about an hour)! Yay!
Dabitch, I think "Fedex You Fuckers - Where's My Friggin' Package?" works better. Maybe you should start a competition for the best heading - and the prize is sent via Fedex.
Wow, it's surprising to see all the people bitching about FedEx. I personally will use no other courier. After years of dealing with a regular volume of international shipments, I've found them to be the only reliable one out there. UPS is TERRIBLE - I mean, CRIMINALLY so. DHL just doesn't care, and have let me down on many occasions. But I've never once had a serious problem with FedEx. I actually have a provision in my contract that states that the client must use FedEx for all shipments to me.
I guess it's probably just like anything else of this nature - there are no truly great, consistent ones. Just ones that don't screw up "as much". *sigh*
The most consistent thing about brands is their advertising. Welcome frickinmuck, I love your glasses.
Maybe they're good in Canada. They were all I ever used when I was in New York, and I swore by them back then. It's over here in Sweden (and in Denmark as well when we had offices there) that they drop the ball every single time they should be delivering a package here. I wonder what their "policy" is when it comes to dealing with "locked doors", I mean, what they tell the Fedex driver to do. He has my package, is outside of the buildings door, has my phonenumber (on the package as well) and no key to the door. Seems there would be one single obvious thing to do in such a case, wouldn't it?
I dunno, seems the quality of service with anything at all has been going downhill. Or am I imagining that? kids, get off my lawn!
Yeah - I use them primarily between the us and canada, and I've never had a problem. I've only used them for European shipments once or twice.
Frustrating to hear this, as I'm planning on moving to Europe soon. Is there ANYONE doing a passable job, or is everyone a Planet Express?
I don't understand. How does Fedex operate a delivery business if they can't get pass the normal occurrence of a locked building door? Small offices don't have a 24-hour guard in reception downstairs, it must be a pretty common thing to encounter.
GUESS WHO GOT HER FEDEX TODAY?
Oh yeah, meee! Oddly he managed to get past that locked door all by himself, must have arrived just as someone was leaving.
