Publicis/Toronto turned to director Tom De Cerchio of Incubator Films for “Surrounded,” a new ad in which a couple’s new car stops a high-speed chase on a busy metropolitan freeway. The shoot involved shutting down Toronto’s busy Gardner Freeway (Canada’s answer to LA’s I-405) and bringing multiple helicopters and camera cars, eleven precision drivers, and up to six cameras at a time for two days of shooting. “We wanted to make this as massive as possible,” said De Cerchio, who added a second helicopter for air to air coverage. “I've had the pleasure of collaborating with cinematographer Doug Koch on several occasions and, as usual, he did an amazing job,” said De Cerchio, who also lauded the efforts of Location Manager Jerry Abramowitz. “Jerry got the Gardner Expressway shut down during the day for the very first time ever – he heard ‘no’ more times than a Hollywood screenwriter…but he persevered.” Superadgrunts, check the spot out below.
