Ad plagiarism doesn't get more blatant than Global PC's theft of one of the most famous commercials in history-Apple Computer's "1984."

DaBitch tipped me to this heist recently and I investigated. (Apple's "1984" can be found in the here in the claymore project superbowl commercial Archive and Global PC's ripoff is at Adcritic.com.)

A shot by shot comparison of the two spots and an analysis of this criminally insane act can be found at commando.com -"thinking inside the box".

Agreed. The chutzpah on the creative team here shows no bounds. I don''t think they''ve succeeded at parody, but instead went all the way to rip-off. Maybe the next commercial in the series will show a bunch of people coming together on a mountaintop, all holding laptops, singing "I''d like to teach the world to e-mail." And the print ad for sure will be "They all laughed when I got up to play Doom."

OK. So let''s even give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that is was created in parody, who in the general audience is going to appreciate that? It''s well known enough in the ad community, but I wouldn''t dare say the average Joe makes the connection. It must have been a small win at the time for the team, but I bet they''re regretting it now.

That is the worst rip-off I have ever seen. What could they have been thinking?

Go Wes Go!

Is the global PC ad meant to be a "homage"?
