Moving AIDS issues from the backburner

AIDS issues aren't getting enough media attention these days, it's as if there's a burnout, especially when it comes to AIDS in Africa. Never fear, a new wave of attention grabbing stunts will put AIDS in Africa firmly back in the front of mind, first up was AIDES.org last week with their viral film comparing numbers with the tsunami, and now comes the DAA.
Designers Against Aids (via Manalo.se after a tip from Researcher) are releasing a collection of clothes made by both established and young new designers, and even band members. Some who lent their creativity to DAA are Bernhard Willhelm, Marina Yee and Spastor, photographer Kimiko Yoshida, The Cardigans, Scissor Sisters and Robert Smith from The Cure.
Nelson Mandela has taken his old prison number 46664 and turned it into a worldwide campaign name against AIDS in Africa. 46664 does "Band Aid" style live events and concerts, has it's own anthem written by Dave Stewart and Joe Strummer, performed by U2's Bono and has attracted big name celebs like Will Smith and Brad Pitt to be special ambassadors.
