OK, after testing, changing, testing testing and testing again I can now report that the Paypal payment system only upgrades about 50% of the payees, and there is no improvement. The problem is that only 50% of paypal mails "yes this user paid" are ever sent out, and that's something Paypal only - not me - can fix. I'm throwing in the towel on that now, as paypal is rather (read extremly) nasty to deal with anyway and such dismal numbers are unacceptable. The Secure Credit Card system is considerably faster and works 100% of the time so we might as well just keep that.
On another note, June is almost up and that means there will soon be a new guest writer at Coudal.com where I've been dropping links the past month. Pay them a visit, the links are mmm-mmm-goood, and their photoshop tennis games are great friday fun!
Paypal will not be back.

*grunt* The only thing that made me Paypaling in the first place was ad-rag... ;)... and now I'm stuck! Get me outta here!
No protesting from me - this new system is infinitely better! Much much faster and less confusing than stupid paypal! Paypal shut down my account once for no reason at all, seems to be a bad habit of theirs: PayPal settles customer suit -
I'm shutting my paypal account today. And you can finally put all those ads back up that Paypal thought were porn! I hate paypal with a passion. Thank you for coming up with this secure credit card solution!
I understand the problems you had with paypal and for people with a credit card the new system is much better. Unfortunately I refuse to a own a credit card and relied on paypal because they accept debit cards. Renewing my subscription will be more difficult now..my choice, maybe I should think about getting one so I can get charged a ridiculous amount of interest and make their shareholders even richer.
If your debit-card reads "visa" "mastercard" you can use it here. I only have a debit card (VISA) as well, and I used the system here just fine. The difference between debit and credit is how you pay for the card - not in how the card is treated by vendors - or at least there shouldn't be one under the major brands. I reckon you should just give it a try, and let us know how it goes.
My VISA card is a debit card as well, and the main card used for testing this system. It worked. Let me know if yours doesn't. If it's a visa/mastercard it should be fine.
No sorry guys it won't work. I use a little known Solo card...it's ok though I'll borrow a visa from a friend and remain a member to this great site ;)
Paypal just froze my assets after I bid on somethingon Ebay. I have no idea why still. I'm glad you no longer use paypal, the more I try and unravel what to do in order to get my account (and my MONEY) back I find more horror-stories about Paypals erratic behaviour.

Hey I was wondering if you had tried Western Union.com and seen if that would work well. I've never used WU but I think the may have some kind of credit card payment transfers or something.
I bring this up cuz I know some people might be a little hesitant to whip out their credit card everytime they want to pay the $2 (or euros if you like). A WU transfer might be a good option to have along with the credit card thing already in place.
Hey, I assume you mean the western union bid payment system, which isn't a good fit here at all unfortunatly. We did look into hundreds of payment systems (literally) before settling on the safest and fastest (and for everyone, cheapest) way of payment, which is a simple credit card transaction.
Western Union® Auction Payments are handled by Bidpay.com, and probably work great with say, an Ebay auction, as purchases a one Western Union® Money Order(sm) online and have it sent directly to the seller. The payee and the seller both receive emails within 24 hours (right there, a bad time-issue for us here who want to upgrade at once!) and then if the transaction is approved, a second email will confirm that the Western Union Money Order payment instrument is in the mail, that is snail-mail, another time-issue. Far from ideal for this site where our current credit card system goes like this:
Adgrunt who wants an upgrade clicks a button, is transferred to a secure connection (https) and fills in their credit card # - through secure lines this is transferred to the bank which checks card - when card is cleared (typically within less than 10 seconds) - adgrunt is thanked and sent back to front page (non-https) and is now an upgraded super adgrunt.
If people think it's a hassle to whip their card out every time, they could always just buy a year up front for 24 €, and not have to whip their card out for another 12 months. ;)
Well, I'm begging you to use PayPal. Maybe it's gotten better lately. Big names like bhphotovideo.com and newegg.com are using it and I doubt they'd put up with the hassle. Now all I need are a hundred other guys to beg and maybe I can access the archives again!
Doubt it, the secure credit card system is more secure for both buyer and seller, obeys banking laws (that is, won't freeze peoples assets for no reason like paypal does), and is cheaper. Why should we downgrade? ;)
The irony here is that when we had paypal, I'd get an email a day from someone begging me to use a credit card system instead since paypal are so untrustworthy. ;)
More people use this system (as many people avoid paypal, or simply can't use it because they are from say, Portugal, Swedens biggest bank or Brazil), and less people ask for paypal back, sorry mate but you are in the minority.
By the way, DSB (Danish Railways), Tivoli (the famous Danish amusement park), SF (Swedens Movie theatres) and SJ (Swedens Railway) use this system for their online booking. Never heard of bhphotovideo.com and newegg.com to be honest.
