Heineken "Oranjekoorts" (2014) 1:05 (The Netherlands)

Heineken celebrates Orange Fever (Oranjekoorts) leading up to the 2014 FIFA World Cup, in this crazy hot mess of a spot.

The spot begins at a Brazilian Carnival. (Where else? Do they do anything else in brazil besides dance naked?) We see a Dutch float appear. And then all of a sudden it becomes a Trojan Horse, opening up to spread Orange Fever to the Cariocas.

Lead by Heineken’s Chief Orange Officer - a legitimate job role filled earlier this year in the first wave of the Oranjekoorts campaign - we then see loads of archetypical Dutch cultural references. World-famous illusionist Hans Klok magically appears, there's a windmill, tulips, and football great Dennis Bergkamp makes an appearance. Every one related to the Netherlands gets involved, except Anne Frank in her attic, thank God. Although to paraphrase Justin Bieber when he visited The Anne Frank House, "hopefully, she would have had Oranjekoorts." By the way, the spot's soundtrack is a samba version of No Limit, an old 90's song by the Dutch group, 2 Unlimited.

In other words, this spot takes almost every cliche imaginable about the Dutch, and then plops it into a Brazilian Carnival cliche. That's an impressive feat, when you think about it.

* Cariocas, for those not familiar, are what they call people who live in Rio.
