Dumb ad ban of the week: The UNT mug

Firebox the jokey site that sells risqué sillyness like the Stress Mushrooms has been slapped on the wrist by the ASA for displaying "the UNT mug" prominently on their page. The UNT mug has, according to descriptions, excellent beverage serving abilities, oddly familiar selection of letters and a C-shaped handle. That's the funny.

"Ways to get into advertising" site with absurd advice

Jason Scott has made a random junk suggestion generator called Ways to get into advertising, where the advice is every hilarious stereotype you've ever heard about the hot shops and over-hyped ideas.
"FEDEX AKQA a giant QR code that links to your book" Good lord, no.

Stevie Wonder never did an Atari ad - you've been had

If you stumbled upon that Stevie Wonder ad where our great musician proclaims "If I could play video game, you bet it would be ATARI", and thought it was real ad from the likes of 1981.... you've been had.

iPhone 5c spoof - looks just like crocs.

Pretty much everyone who watched the keynote that announced the iPhone 5c thought of colorful plastic shoes when they saw it. Including the digital department of PKP BBDO from Vienna, Austria (pkp-bbdo.at) who dashed out on lunch and shot this spoof-ad.

People involved, Florian Kozak, Philipp Bayerl, Paul Horvath, Max Jürschik, Andreas Potzmann, Andreas Mahringer. Various co-workers and several crocs.

LOWE's invites your playful side with fun boxes

"This is the box PVC pipe and fittings came in, from Lowe's" said my pal and happy photo snapper Mr Bill who also has an interesting photo of the shadow of the old AT&T Bell logo vs the new logo on a building in his stream. The box body copy reads:

FOUL VARLET! I CHALLENGE THEE TO A DUEL! Whosoever doth possess the power to free the sword from the box shall be king. The gauntlet has been thrown - now draw thy sword and have a thee!

Jonathan Ive redesigns Apple: a.k.a colors, gradients, everywhere.

There's a new tumblr in town called Jony Ive Redesigns Things. He puts an orange-red gradient all over Marlboro, he makes the apple logo like a purple-pink pill and my personal favorite: Jonathan Ives redesigns the facebook timeline and Apple logo below.

Funny or Die Rips Ram a new one

If you can get past the annoying voice, this spoof pretty much sums it up.

Design Jargon Bullshit - the terrifying real examples.

You could be forgiven if you for e abrief moment upon visiting Design Jargon Bullshit that it is simple yet another tumblr with hilariously buzzworded pullquotes of jargon, so familiar to us in the industry. But look a little closer and you'll realize.... The horrors.... The horror.. They are all real and link to one jargontastic site after the other. This is the sort of thing that will give me nightmares, kids. Hold me.

The Ad pad - that black squiggly square blank needs your ideas

The Ad pad is a plain paper pad designed specifically for advertising creatives. What makes it special? The squiggly black border that beckons you to fill it with an ad idea. It says I have 55 pages of CANNES LION WINNING POSTERS here if you'd only jot them down already, you lazy git. It challenges you to fill the blank. It screams "white space does not communicate".

Of course, the ad pad is everywhere too. On twitter: @the_adpad. On facebook The ad pad. Oh, and if your creative department runs out of ad pads, have them order some new ones with this handy form.
