  • The most established brands seem to stick with high profile spokespeople. This maybe a painfully obvious newbie question, but how do brands go about picking a celeb match- I get the selection in fashion like Kate Moss by Louis Vuitton, but what about things like autos with female celebs? For instance Land Rover has Maria Sharapova for their new LR2- she definitely is a great fit with her good looks and classy air.

  • Yeah, I saw that ad too and was confused why they picked Godzilla from that version- don*t recall that being particularly a succesful one, as remakes go. Maybe there is some cult following around that movie?

  • I am by no means an expert on viral, but I have heard that domain targeting can be done to ensure viewing by targeted country.

  • Tapping high schools and college students is a good idea. I would particularly suggest reaching out to college students who might have a hidden creative bent without too much commercial focus. I*m thinking back to my liberal arts college, there were a lot of education and history majors (the latter was my department) who had no professional experience and come end of senior year were willing to do anything pro bono to have it on their resume.

  • Addylover, thanks for posting. smile That is such a fun commercial, really stands out and speaks to what makes the Land Rover such a great luxury brand.

  • Thanks for the input on GPS. I am familiar with GPS tech, and that many vehicles come with it installed. What I thought was so cool is using the GPS to navigate the plane, not just the car. And I like how the commercial and additional website promo materials capture the Land Rover brand*s reputation for adventure.

  • This sounds really interesting, unfortunately I don*t have much to contribute as I am new to the marcom industry from management consulting. Would love to hear about your findings. Good luck.

  • >>Buying ideas to trash them would make you very poor and me very rich. I would make a business coming up with bad ideas just to sell them to you. >> Exactly.

  • Yes, that tactic is way too overdone to even be effective anymore.

  • So I*m not exactly Miss Gadget Expert (proof you can work for all tech industry clients for years and not be converted), but I have heard of GPS (or sat nav as it is called in Europe and Australia) being used to help drive your car about and not get lost. Well I saw a commercial of the new Land Rover LR3 using its GPS system to fly a plane- they placed the plane inside a jet and turned the jet*s nav stuff off and let the GPS of the LR3 guide it. Wow, what a creative ad- definitely sticks out from most TV spots. They mention more is on the website, and its pretty cool. http//www.landroverusa.com/us/en/Vehicles/Extraordinary_Perspectives/Extraordinary_Perspectives.htm
