"David Ogilvy just creamed Jimmy Smith today" What? In ADversaries.

What is the ADversaries challenge? It's the thing we all do anyway, we pit the greatest advertising icons against each other, and now there's an actual facebook page game for it, created by Texas ad agency Sanders\Wingo.

“What started as the typical creative debate about the industry developed into one of those ‘wouldn’t it be cool’ moments,” Executive Creative Director Shanteka Sigers, said. “Every single agency and every marketing department tosses around the conversation about industry icons. We just took it online to let everyone weigh in on naming the greatest.”

Copywriter telegrams: Need Work (Stop) In good shop (Stop).

Did you hear about that copywriter who is attempting to get his foot in the advertising door by using the oldest of old media, telegrams? For one thing, I had no idea that one could still telegram. Where do you send them off from? Are they hand delivered to the agency by a guy in a neat uniform and hat like in the old movies? I've never even seen a telegram, you've piqued my curiosity for retro-tech, tell me more Zack Filler the telegramming copywriter.

Zack: "There is a website called telegramstop.com and they will send the telegrams to any address you like. All over the world. They get delivered to the agency, barring any complication in the mail room. I've never seen a real one either. "

Collateral Damage Part 2: Adam Weber.

Everyone knows about that dude Tom Waits. Gravelly voiced, make your heart break in a million pieces singer songwriter artist with hobo beatnik persona.

You know what else he is? He’s smart enough to know that Tom Waits is also a guy with integrity, who knows the the thing he offers to the world--his talent--is unique, and shouldn’t be copied or stolen by anybody. And he’s willing to keep suing every time it happens to maintain that integrity.

Remember Google "coffee" ad? Well, the girlfriend responded.

So, I'm sure you all remember the cutesy little flirt from April where a guy attempts to re-gain the Lady that got away via google-doc proposal to have a cuppa joe? Yeah, he was an idiot. No, hang on, I'm sorry. It was a valiant effort.

Oreo celebrates gay pride with rainbow stuffing.

On Oreo cookies official facebook page there's a rainbow cookie, or rather a cookie with rainbow stuffing. I'd totally try this cookie if each color had a slightly different flavor too. It's not like the Absolut Bottle, since this is just a simple photoshop job, but it is on the official facebook page in the USA; where there was quite the homophobic ad banning trend a few years back.

For Those Lost, Just Not Forgotten (2012)

For Those Lost, Just Not Forgotten (2012)

Director Cole Webley just completed this beautiful, powerful and moving passion project, a short film titled "For Those Lost, Just Not Forgotten".

"The film is a visual expression of the angst of being lost - emotionally," explains Webley. "It represents something we all go through, and something that is integral to the human experience. We certainly don't like it, but we almost can't avoid feeling this way at some time or another."

The imagery of the film is set to a poem written by Chateau Bezerra, an Art Director at AKQA, whom Webley went to university with and where the two collaborated on some of the director's first spec work.

I went to Home Sweet Zombie and sent a bunch of Zombies to Don Drapers house on Madison avenue.

Using Google images and any Zip code +Any Name you fancy as input, the little Zombie skit can be acted out anywhere there's Google street images nearby. Which is pretty much everywhere, these days.

Created by Koko Digital for Confused.com - who will insure you for almost anything, but not against the Zombie apocalypse. Boo!

Collateral Damage: How Free Culture destroys advertising.

A funny thing happened on the internet last week. On Sunday, an NPR’s “All Songs Considered” intern named Emily White wrote an intriguing post called I never owned any music to begin with. Miss White is 20 years old and missed the milestone when we changed how we acquire music. In the post, she speaks of having 11,000 songs, despite only having purchased 15 cds.

In the short post two things jumped out at me.

“…I honestly don’t think my peers and I will ever pay for albums. I do think we will pay for convenience.”

Sapient Nitro's pinterest board of overheard in Cannes

Sapient Nitro made a pinterest board called Big Idea Overheard at #Canneslions, and I feel really sorry for the person I presume was stuck in a dark room hand-picking the neat quotes from twitter feeds to make into inspirational quote boards. This is so meta, we almost broke the space-time continuum.

United Colors of Benetton Campaign Wins Press Lion Grand Prix

It's been a while since Benetton ads have won awards. They either weren't running many or they weren't as good or controversial as in the past. But Fabrica with the help of 72andSunny changed that, which is why their campaign took the Grand Prix in Press.
