Carl's Jr - Mechanical Bull (2003) - 0:30 (USA)

If you've ever had one of these beastburgers, you know damn well that most of it would have fallen out onto the ground before the bull even started up, but I'm more than willing to overlook that little fact.

Agency: Mendelsohn|Zien
Music: Foghat - Slow Ride

Over at Steve Halls blog they've just (re?)discovered this ad, and Steve says: "the PR contact at the company told me the spot first ran in August of this year." - If you take his word for it then have Hardyys/Carls Jr relaunched a year old ad in order to get attention, or is the PR contact dizzy? What gives?

what, on video? DVD? Have you tried those ad-selling companies listed in the adlinks... ?

Probably just re-aired this crappy ad.

re-airing is one thing, saying it never aired until August 2004 is another. But perhaps that PR-person was new to the gig?

Here's the beef, kids - Carl's Jr. ran the ad at the end of '03. Now this fall, they're using the spot for Hardee's (which is pretty much the same franchise, star and everything, only found in other parts of the USofA).

Oh Clay, you are so wise in the ways of the ad. ;)
So basically they are recycling an ad for a different, but basically the same, brand. Sounds cheap. ;)

Right, knowing that Hardy's and Carls JR are the same same but different - I was kindof expecting the PR person to be clever and say things like: "This mechanical Bull ad never ran for Hardy's until 2003", yah? But for all I know they did say that, the quote at adrants was more in the way Steve saying what they told him, rather than a direct Quote.

I love this commercial...anyone know how I can get a copy of it?

Thanks,
