Tampax attempts to apologize for offensive tweet that triggered he #BoycottTampax hashtag

An update on the #BoycottTampax trending topic, which we reported on here, Tampax tweeted an apology on Saturday.

"We messed up with our last tweet. We removed it and we apologize to everyone we offended. Respect is central to our brand values - our recent language did not reflect that.  We have learned from this, and we will do better." (archive)

The half-hearted apology, which was a week late likely due to the thanksgiving holidays in the US, struck people as "too little too late". The "BoycottTampax" hashtag had at this point taken on a life of its own, and Dylan Mulvany was the star of many of the tweets due to Procter and Gambles's failure in addressing whether they ever sponsored him or not when he claimed so, back in April.

Since then Dylan has been the spokesperson for Ulta Makeup and Haus Labs, as well as meeting President Biden in the white house, so now it is generally assumed that Tampax approached Dylan as well, and Dylan is their spokesperson. Particularly since the recent tweets that caused this uproar sound a lot like Dylan's tone of voice, only lacking the term "Barbie pouch".

The apology, and now deletion of the older tweets, seem to have no effect at all on the outrage. Turns out that women on their periods aren't that forgiving, who knew?

It is not all gloom and doom for Tampax after this apology though. India Willoughby, an English journalist, and reality television personality, famous for being Britain's first transgender newsreader, tweeted out a promise to stay a loyal customer.

India is 57 years old, an age when most women are post-menopause and thus do not need products like Tampax anymore. It's unclear what India is using Tampax for.
