Therapy Studios Welcomes Award-winning Editor Steve Prestemon

Adding to their already renowned roster of artists, LA-based editorial, sound and post production company Therapy Studios is thrilled to announce their latest partnership with Steve Prestemon. An award-winning editor of literally hundreds of commercials, as well as documentary features, trailers and music videos, Prestemon’s vast experience and expertise make him a perfect addition to the team.

Steve Prestemon’s effective, clear-eyed, and artful work as an editor is well known. He has received awards from AICP, AICE and the Beldings, and his work has been shortlisted at Cannes. In just the last few years Prestemon has edited high-profile spots for some of the world’s biggest brands, including Mercedes, Samsung and Hyundai, as well as three feature documentaries.

“Steve brings a particular talent for music-driven visual storytelling, as well a distinct documentary style,” says Partner/Executive Producer Joe DiSanto. Prestemon’s gift for storytelling and narrative advertising is unparalleled; a multimedia campaign consisting of six short films and 19 television commercials created to highlight Target’s charitable giving and new environmental focus is one of many notable examples.

“I’m interested in making quality, arresting work that tells a story,” remarks Prestemon. “I’m drawn to a human element, and the particular magic of when that human element is rendered through film.”

In fact, Prestemon studied documentary directing at the Columbia College and made a number of films of his own before signing on as an editor at companies such as Cosmo Street and Whitehouse Post. He has edited the documentary features Wild In The Streets, SneakerHeadz (SXSW 2015), CodeGirl, and Meet the Hitlers. Currently, Prestemon is in the final stages of cutting the full-length documentary Westerly, co-directed by Alan White and Jamie Brisick.

“I approach editing documentary features and commercials the same way,” says Prestemon, “I zero in on the narrative, find the story, tease out the driving force.” It’s that exact clarity, that distinct vision across the board – across genres – that makes him so appealing to such a variety of clients. In straddling the intersection of documentary and lifestyle-based advertising, he’s able to inform and elevate both of his passions to the level of art.

A veteran of the editing business, Prestemon is just as excited to be working on his latest commercial as he was his first, and particularly now that he’s signed on with Therapy Studios. “There’s just so much to be inspired by here: the team, the clients and the fact that Therapy has been successful in both the commercial and entertainment worlds. I’m excited to get to work.”
