Two commercials go head to head in our Free-For-All AdLand Creative Death Cage.*
Who wins? Who ends up jackknifed in the ditch? You decide - that's what comments are for.
In this corner, it's a JCPenney one-day sale commercial for Saturday, November 3rd. In the other corner, it's a Steinmart one-day sale commercial for Saturday, November 10th. Ding! And there's the bell. Who wins?
* Actually, it's more like a one bedroom efficiency.
Did Steinmart get co-op with U-Haul? Otherwise, ouch.

PermalinkI like the J.C. Penney ad more because:
1 - The trucks are bigger, implying that there is more stuff to be bought and hauled.
2 - All these women are shown using the trucks prior to their arrival at J.C. Penney:
- gasing up
- picking the kid up from the game
- etc.
3 - I like them being shown 'racing' each other in the trucks.
4 - You have more of a build up (suspense) in the JCP ad, wondering what all these women are up to.
5 - The sameness of the Steinmart ad, with all of the U-Haul trucks, doesn't sit well with me, non-conformist that I am. [It sure looks like co-oping with U-Haul to me]
6 - The JCP ads are more reminiscent of the Pepsi Ad where P. Diddy gets a lift to an award show in a Pepsi truck, and then everyone is driving Pepsi trucks, trying to be cool.
Regarding "Free-For-All AdLand Creative Death Cage.*", where * = "Actually, it's more like a one bedroom efficiency." - The only difference between them is, it is easier to get out of the Death Cage than the efficiency.

PermalinkHowever, Steinmart uses a better VO.
The one from JCPenny is so cliché.

PermalinkWell, due to certain limitations at my current client, I cannot listen to the commercials, except maybe at lunchtime. So I didn't hear the VO or the music. I meant to mention this in my previous post...

PermalinkI agree (w/Hygge). I'm wondering if I'm intended to think it's funny to see women driving big rigs in the JCPenny spot. Because I don't.
