Lamisil's Frightening Fungus Fiend

Unsightly toenail fungus makes a comeback, and it's freaking the hell out of Slate scribe Rob Walker.

The ad begins with an animated, and rather hideous, creature. He has a big wide, thin-lipped mouth, slitty eyes, jutting ears, a tail, creepy little spots, nasty tufts of hair jutting out of his body. Also claws. He says his name is Digger. He is a dermatophyte— "you know," he says, "a nail infection." He darts over to a huge toe—a normal-looking, human toe. "All I want," Digger says, "is to get in here." Then he reaches up, and pulls the toenail back.

This is horrifying. I wasn't taking notes, but I think the first time I saw it I said something like, "Aaaaaarrrrrrggghhhhhh!"

Oven Mit suuucks (c'mon, how many oven mits have you seen in a fast food restaurant? Creepy, yes... no more so than Tom Arnold's career)...

And... how big of a problem is toe nail fungus anyway? I can count on one hand the number of people I've known with fungal problems (thank god)... should we really be scaring people like this?

When that little yellow Gremlin lifts the big toe nail like the hood on a car, I squirm every time. Icky.

But the real scary thing is how damaging Lamisil is. Not only does it attack your toenail fungus, it attacks your liver. I urge you to never take this drug, and to tell your friends not to.

Touche~ The Oven Mitt beats the Fungus Fiend by a nose! Oh hey, wait, Oven Mitt doesn't have a nose! Or EARS! Yikes!!!

Going back to the Arby's Oven Mitt comment.....I have yet to see an oven mitt at a fast food restaurant. Now, bloody bandages, I've seen a lot of!

Not to mention the damage is does to your wallet if it is not covered by insurance. $10 a tablet. Not gonna refill that scrip.
