Models in window, New York - one can practically hear them shout "Egoiste!"

Girls in the window

The image that inspired Jean-Paul Goude to create the famous Égoïste ad? Perhaps, perhaps not, and we'll never know. Either way, you must admit the photo Models in Window, New York, 1960 spotted in an old Vogue magazine is fan-ta-stic!

The famous photo "girls in the window" was taken at New York's East 58th Street in 1960, which just so happened to be across from Ormond Gigli's studio. He saw that the brownstone was about to be demolished and that I was just there, empty. So he sent his studio manager over to speak to the demolition contractor to ask if they could use it for one last photograph. The contractor agreed, provided his wife could also be in the shot. Then they simply phoned around to friends and models who arrived in their best dress, ready for the shot.

Ormond Gigli's own wife is on the second floor, two over, in a pink outfit.
