Foshata? Hai, foshata, domo arigato.

For all you gaijin who's Japanese skills are limited to "tempura" and "sukiyaki", have some fun subtitling Japanese ads to say what you think they're saying.

At Foshata.com you can pick a typically bizarre Japanese ad and add your own subtitles. Kinda like the fanta Bollywood subtitle thing with a lesser execution but the strange Japanese ads make it good fun for us adgrunts anyway.

Hat tip Spiegel

At Foshata.com, you can subtitle your own Japanese TV commercial. Just choose from a menu of ads
for cell phones, soda, or tech companies and put in the words of your choice. Suddenly, jaded yuppie diners and their tuxedo clad waiter are saying the words to a commercial for cat food ("I want chicken, I want liver, only Meow Mix can deliver!").

In another clip, a handsome well-dressed man on a bench confesses to his winsome companion that he's hiding tentacles under his fedora. A traditionally garbed man pulls a cell phone out of his kimono, dials a trendy young woman eating Chinese food, and comments "My bologna has a first name." These commercial-ettes are extremely short, so fitting in a punch line takes a finesse that escapes some of the posters; and the humor is often sophomoric. But it's still funny to see Japanese businessmen drinking sake and arguing over the quality of their Bill Clinton impersonations.
