"Glædelig jul og godt Tub'år" is the slogan for this now classic ad. This mean,s roughly, Merry Christmas and a good new Tub-year.. Except it rhymes with Tuborg in Danish.
This special Christmas beer was first brewed in 1981. But the now classic look was already established in 1979, when they used the blue and snow dotted illustrations on a season greeting card. By 1980 they decorated the beer trucks with the style, and in 1981 they launched the Christmas ale, julebryg, that is now practically synonymous with Danish Christmas.
The 14th of November 1990 Tuborg introduced the term "J-day" (J-dag), and on this day they premiere the Julebryg with special beer delivery events all throughout Denmark. Rumour has it that the Danish government has begged Tuborg to place J-day on a Friday, because literally, the entire country is a little sluggish the day after from drinking one too many julebryg on the day it launches.
