Augmenting Austin: Movies, Music and Justice - Three GoldRun Augmented Reality Promotions at South By Southwest

NEW YORK and AUSTIN, TX - March 11, 2011 - Augmented reality platform GoldRun brings augmented reality to the streets of Austin, with three promotions where Apple iPhone users hunt for Paul the alien, TV on The Radio's new album cover and the head of Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

To participate Apple iPhone users download the free GoldRun app from iTunes, then select the "run" they wish to follow. The app allows users to locate, view and interact with augmented reality objects GPS-linked to various spots around Austin. When found, users simply capture, or take a photo, of the object to earn their rewards, such as entry to album giveaway contests or the chance to attend exclusive events. They can also immediately share their photos on Facebook.

Paul on the Run

Paul is hiding out all around Austin prior to his theatrical opening March 18th. Track down the fugitive alien, and if you "capture" him you could gain access to the exclusive Maxim/PAUL party on March 13th and hang with the cast.

Paul, from the earthlings who brought you Superbad, is hanging in Austin until Sunday's party. Then GoldRun moves the Paul run to New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, and to the premiere of the film in Los Angeles. Look for him at movie theaters and hang out spots in those three cities.

TV on the Radio

During SXSW, take a picture at one of Austin hot-spots with the "Nine Types of Light" album cover for a chance to win a copy on vinyl. Locations include: Cedar Street Courtyard, Convention Center, Driscoll Hotel, Emo's, Fader Fort, La Zona Rosa, Pure Volume House, Stubbs, Urban Outfitters, Waterloo.

Unlimited Justice* at SXSW

#FightThePaddle!

Mark Ecko tapped GoldRun to "Fight the Paddle!" at SXSW. Attendees can support Marc Ecko's Unlimited Justice campaign to end corporal punishment in schools by using GoldRun to interact with virtual objects, support the initiative and help spread the word.

Collect virtual items related to the Unlimited Justice campaign such as paddles, US map showing the 20 states allowing corporal punishment, and the president of Iran's head (Iran outlaws corporal punishment, the USA does not). This is for a great cause so forget the prizes, capture objects digitally placed around Austin and share them with friends to Fight The Paddle!

About GoldRun

GoldRun is a new augmented reality app that enables users to locate, interact with and take photos of GPS-linked virtual objects positioned in the real world. A powerful promotional tool tailored for the mobile environment, the app hosts AR-driven social media games, guides, virtual photo booths and loyalty programs designed to drive traffic to physical and online destinations, increase product sales, enhance brand engagement and bolster viral impact.

GoldRun users take pictures alongside virtual objects and can immediately post these photos to Facebook. By helping brands tap into this image sharing impulse, the app turns social networks into even more effective distribution channels as GoldRunners share images of themselves interacting with everything from scenes in blockbuster films, to iconic sports figures and the season's must have fashion items.
