Creativity Abounds As EDITBAR Promotes Danny Weeks + Welcomes Jacks Genega, Louie Cohen and Jon Daniel

EDITBAR is excited to announce the representation of three new editors whose work encompasses many genres with story at the heart of each collaboration. Jacks Genega, Louie Cohen and Jon Daniel bring their signature talent to the creative editorial company’s roster of Britt Bellamy – who made waves with her recent contribution to PUMA’s global campaign She Moves Us – Peter Barstis, Reuter, Charlie Coffou and the newly-promoted Danny Weeks.

“At its core, EDITBAR is its talent and community, and while we love our wonderful space, a lot of doors have opened knowing that our editors can be based anywhere as long as they are where our clients need them to be for the project.” explains Phoebe Cole, EDITBAR EP. “We put creativity at the forefront of everything and work incredibly hard to deliver for our clients. Jacks, Louie, Jon, Danny and everyone on our roster are driven by the same principals. We’ve been talking about adding to our tight-knit group  for a while now and things have beautifully fallen into place at just the right time.”

Fearless, intrepid and artful, Editor Jacks Genega emboldens people to connect with big ideas and each other through crafting stories in the edit suite and leading wilderness experiences in the great outdoors. It is this spirit of community and creative exchange that brings her to EDITBAR. Throughout her editing career, which was established at Lost Planet, she has worked with esteemed ad agencies and directors on commercial campaigns and documentary shorts to music videos and other branded content. Among them, collaborations with Smuggler director Henry-Alex Rubin on spots for Coca-Cola and American Express, and with Independent Media’s Janusz Kaminski on a spot for New York Times Magazine featuring Cate Blanchett. She has also collaborated with Spider-Man Homecoming's director Jon Watts on a music video featuring a robot traveling city streets, and  has worked alongside Spike Lee on a CLIO-winning documentary-short for Cadillac. Her award-winning work includes the Cannes Grand Prix-Promo Lion for a campaign with Ogilvy Brazil, and she was also recognized for her achievement as Visual Effects Designer for Florence and The Machine's "Dog Days Are Over," winning an MTV Video Music Award for Best Art Direction.

“After returning to the US having worked in Amsterdam for a few years,” says Jacks. “I really wanted to be a part of a team again and in talking to EDITBAR it quickly became evident that this was the right one. Now more than ever, people crave human connection, both in terms of who they work alongside but also in stories told. Everyone should have a voice and, for that reason, it is a very compelling time to be part of storytelling.”

Louie Cohen brings a decade long adventure in editing to his collaboration with EDITBAR. His experience includes films, national commercials, promos, music videos, and 360° video including branded content and high-energy spots for NFL, Taco Bell, State Farm and ESPN. As a promo editor for Shapes and Forms he enticed viewers with “What To Watch,” and was part of the innovation team at Specular Theory, editing 360° projects including episodes of the award-winning YouTube Red 360° Series "MatPat's GameLab.” He has a holistic appreciation for the process and the puzzle of designing stories that connect in collaboration with VFX, motion graphics, sound, and color teams. His appreciation for the collaborative process - seeking creative and technical solutions for a challenge - is the spark that ignites his passion for editing.

“The timing is really serendipitous for me; Having worked for over a decade as a freelancer in both Los Angeles and on the East Coast, where I am now based, I am excited to find this home away from home with EDITBAR,” Louie explains. “There’s a familial feeling that comes through even when you are not physically in the same space, which just feels right.”

Jon Daniel first discovered a curiosity for editing using analog tape to tape making linear edits in high school. Daniel started his career at Crew Cuts as a runner, delivering tapes to agencies and handling random office jobs, and assisted industry icon Clayton Hemmert for four years before being promoted to Editor. He helped Digitas North America win the Comcast account which became a consistent client and life-changer in many ways as he met his future wife in the edit bay. In 2019 he started working in television, joined the Motion Picture Editors Guild, and has been working in TV and advertising ever since. Among his credits are Drew Michael: Red Blue and Green (HBO Max), GIRLS4EVA (Peacock) Ilana Glazer: Comedy On Earth (Comedy Central), and ZIWE (Showtime), Inside Amy Schumer (HBO Max), comedy spots for Xfinity, Google Android and Citibank. His relationship to comedy runs deep - his keen sense of timing and love of helping spark laughter make it a perfect match. But he can deliver on the serious side too, as demonstrated in his work for American Express, American Red Cross and Sallie Mae.

According to Jon, “I first became introduced to EDITBAR through editing Ilana Glazer: Comedy On Earth with Reuter. The two of us really hit it off and, knowing I also worked in advertising, the conversation organically turned to being represented by the company. Their work is stellar and they share my love of making things and having a good time in the process.”

Danny Weeks has been a beloved part of the EDITBAR family for many years, who joined the company as an intern right out of college, quickly becoming a trusted assistant. Unofficially, his start in editing began on an underpowered laptop in a dimly-lit basement. He has more lights and a better computer now, but his zeal for editing remains the same as those basement brigade days. Through films, music videos, and ads alike, he loves to blend meaningful audio and visuals together to create engaging experiences. The rhythm and impact of storytelling are the lifeblood of the approach.

“Everyone at EDITBAR really puts themselves out there to create a supportive environment and I am a product of it,” notes Danny. “To be a part of a team that makes people feel something with story is what makes me wildly excited about editing. Everyone at EDITBAR, our creative partners, and clients are co-conspirators in this amazing experience.”
