We all know that the benefits of sport for girls are many, including greater academic achievement, higher self-esteem. My mother was also quite keen on the fact that soccer teaches teamwork and understanding, as well, so I found myself in various teams in my youth as a shortcut into the places we lived.
In fact, that's the whole point of Soccer Without Borders (SWB). It opens all kinds of doors.
The film, told entirely from a female perspective, highlights the unique challenges faced by refugee, immigrant and under-served youth
