While I think election songs are a bit naff in general, it's part of the political campaigning in Sweden to have one. This year the Sweden Democrats released this song, which has a bit of the national anthem and some peppy guitar in it as well as a very sticky refrain. But with it, they made a music video that copies pretty much every shot from this old beer ad that people still remember fondly. Well, that will certainly get attention. And anyone who remembers the 90s as a much safer and better time in Sweden might just get carried away in this song by nostalgia alone. Who knows. I still think it's naff.
The SD-branded gear worn by everyone is a bit of a 90s throwback in style as well. With small Swedish flags on the left sleeve, the typeface choices, and even the simple gold print "stoppa sosseriet" (stop the social democrats is the best way to translate that I suppose) line on the shirts look very mid-90s. If they were Björn Borg underwear and shirt fit it would have been a home run in nostalgia, honestly.
Update - Carlsberg & Pripps Blå are mad, Sweden Democrats got more press.
