Zara owner offers to make scrubs for Spanish hospitals

While nearly half of Zara's store worldwide sit closed, the parent company Inditex is offering up a suggestion to ensure its factories stay open. According to Reuters, the parent company "said it was studying converting part of its textile manufacturing capacity in Spain to produce hospital gowns.

It also said it would make available to Spain its vast logistics and supplier network, especially in China, to “meet Spain’s emergency needs of both medical and textile materials” such as protective masks, gloves, goggles and caps."

The company has already donated 10,000 masks with another 30,000 shipping by the end of the week.

This is a fantastic idea, and it's heartening to see large companies all over the world are ready willing and able to contribute to what is essentially a war-time effort that is taking its toll physically as well as economically.

I wonder if in the wake of this, companies will realize that it might be a good idea to open up factories in their own country, too? Wouldn't be a bad idea to help their own citizens. No doubt they'd probably pay a few Euros extra for the privilege. 

Keep in mind, too, that Inditex has only offered up the suggestion but hasn't follow through yet. Still, at least they are willing. 

If they were smart, when all is said and done, they'd also tailor them and make them available as a limited collection with some proceeds going to a healthcare workers fund.
