Green Giant "Caught in the Act" (2013) 2:00 (USA)

It's a misdirect spot, done in reality TV style à la "Cheaters."

One one hand this gets a couple props. The casting is well done. And it's nice to see them trying something new beyond the Green Giant nostalgia of my youth. Although I liked that nostalgia, to be honest. At least they didn't rip a page from Crispin and turn the Green Giant into a creepy dude who shows up at your door leering at you and brandishing his green bean nibs in a salacious way.

Considering where they've been I guess this is meant to be edgy or something.

Trolli "Manicorn" (2013) :30 (USA)

A kid with Trolli-made unicorn horn puts mix tape into horn to impress other kids who do not see his Trolli horn as being any big deal. Weirdly Awesome!

Weirdly meh. It's just more irony with Skittles wackiness. That now established convention wouldn't bother me so much if the situations in the spot were as awesome as they are weird.

Trolli "Best Friend Ever" (2013) :30 (USA)

In this spot we see a kid who made a dog out of Trollis. And is happy as a lark until another kid comes along and eats the head off of it.

I guess candies have all decided to play in the same playground that Skittles perfected, except this has a Napoleon Dynamite.

You know what though? These spots do not live up to the weirdly awesome, as most of the situations are neither weird nor awesome. They're silly. But that's not the same.

Dennis Rodman has visited North Korea, and when he was there he went on a long rant "just talk to me Obama. Talk. To. Me."

Chipotle - The Scarecrow - (2013) 3:40 (USA)

Remember when it was enough to promise that you might run into Ronald McDonald or the King at a fast food joint, and that a happy meal was available to get the kids nagging their way there?

5 Gum is eye opening in a really trippy way.

Man, this is a whole other kind of gum. I wish I had a gaggle of helmet wearing alien figures ripping my iris and pupils apart. If only the gum lived up to the ad.

Steak n Shake "The Path to Real Milk Milkshakes " (2013) :30 (USA)

I'm not a huge fan of Jason Schwartzman lookalikes, but I do like me some dry humor. Plus the milkshake uh, sensei has amazing hair, so there's that.
