Jonathan Entwistle, creator, and director of the Netflix hit series The End Of The F***ing World, directed this spot. Here we meet Eddie, who is busy telling his mates about a night at Nando's. The banter is centered around jokes about nuggets, and how spicy you order your chicken (red flag for me, please), as well as showing off Nando's bottomless soft drinks as a crafty girl makes a scientific cocktail mix out of them all.
Social media stars like Grime Gran, music artists like Niko B and England footballer Bukayo Saka all make an appearance. Everything Eddie tells us is peppered with roadman slang; "literally the whole restaurant starts creasing". A date can't handle his orange flag which is an “ick” for the girl he's with. Eddies mate Jonsey ends up at a table with "old G's" getting destroyed at hot wing roulette, and so on.
I'm not the twelve-year-old who probably thinks this ad is fantastic, as I'm getting "hello fellow kids" vibes from this, like a 90s advert using terms like fly, scrub, cowabunga, and rad. Heh, as if!.
The ad ties it all up with a brand new sonic logo inspired by Nando’s South African roots and its ‘Afro-Luso’ music playlists in their restaurants.
