Bringing celebs back from the dead is nothing new, Audrey starred in a gap ad in 2006, while Fred Astaire danced in the ceiling with Dirt Devil in 1997. Bob Monkhouse came back to tell us about prostate cancer which was creepy yet poignant, while Orville Redenbacher came back to tell us about popcorn and that was just creepy.
This commercial with Hepburn is so good looking, you'd think it was all real. She's on a broken down bus when a handsome man offers her a ride in a convertible. Always the doe-eyed demure lady, she hops in the back seat and hands him the bus drivers cap, turning a potential date into her driver, so that she can enjoy her chocolate in the back seat. The soundtrack is Hepburn herself singing moon river, from "Breakfast at Tiffany's".
While the CGI in this ad reaches whole new levels of realistic, it's at some points still obvious it's not really her. The smiles, the skin and the head-moving is perhaps too perfect... But then some of us remember Hepburn as perfection and won't mind at all. Others get a little wigged out when celebrities shill from beyond the grave. "...he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live." Hmm.
Hepburn’s sons, who control her estate, authorised the use of her image, for which they will have received a fee. Sean Ferrer and Luca Dotti say their mother would be “proud” of her new role, adding in a press release that she “often spoke about her love of chocolate and how it lifted her spirit”.
