19 April 2011, Amsterdam – TAXI Europe today announces the appointment of Ron Smrczek to the role of Executive Creative Director from his position as ECD at TAXI’s New York office. He will join current ECD, Maarten van Huijstee at the creative helm of the Amsterdam-based agency, with a view to building its European client roster.
Smrczek first joined TAXI in Toronto in 2003 where he gained global recognition for his work on Nike and Viagra. This winning combination saw him take multiple Gold Lions at Cannes, and ultimately a role as Creative Director. His Viagra “Bleep” campaign was listed by the Gunn Report as one of the top five campaigns of 2006.
Paul Lavoie, Chairman of the TAXI group, says:
“As ECD of TAXI Europe, Ron’s leadership will continue to push creative boundaries in new markets, where he looks forward to building brands with exceptional, results-driven innovative work.”
In 2008, Smrczek moved to TAXI New York as their new Executive Creative Director and delivered integrated campaigns for, among others, New York Life, Blue Shield of California, and The History Channel – which was nominated for an Emmy Award.
On his new role, Ron Smrczek says:
“Having experienced TAXI in both Toronto and New York, I’m thrilled to be adding a city as dynamic and inspiring as Amsterdam to the list. This city has an amazing pool of talent that is made up of a wealth of nationalities. It’s an environment that sits perfectly with the ethos of TAXI Europe.”
Smrczek has been ranked among the top ten most awarded creatives globally in the Boards Magazine festival report card and has received hundreds of local and international accolades, including Lions, Pencils, and Clios.
