In the midst of the celebration of International Women’s Day & Women’s History Month in March, Colorist Jennifer Gaida joined her new creative home at Apache. At the industry-renowned coloring & finishing company, Gaida will undoubtedly continue to break barriers in film.
“There is a lot of gender imbalance in the film industry, in the role of color grading specifically,” shares Apache’s Managing Partner/EP, LaRue Anderson. “I fight to change that with all that I am. We are honored that Jennifer chose to accept our offer to join Apache. When she contacted me and told me she was moving to Los Angeles, I knew I had to meet with her immediately. Jennifer is an amazing colorist, artist, photographer and human! She's a wonderful addition to the most talented team of colorists and finishing artists on the west coast. With her technical eye and creative approach to digital color grading, we plan to have Jennifer round out our commercial and features division.”
Growing up in South Carolina, Gaida discovered her passion for visual arts early on in life. As a young film enthusiast, she lived vicariously through creative expression and naturally gravitated towards the beauty of telling stories through film. During her last semesters of college she was introduced to the world of post-production, eventually evolving her editing skills into color-grading while leading sessions at video post production companies, Utopic and Energy BBDO’s Flare in Chicago. Finally making her Colorist role official at post-production studio, The Colonie, she landed her first feature film, “North of the 10,” that filmed across various cities including Los Angeles, Chicago and Abu Dhabi.
In addition to her work on “North of the 10,” Gaida’s recent work includes color grading video campaigns for notable brands including Walmart, Toyota, Rare Beauty, La Mer and more. She independently colored music videos and shorts starring Vic Mensa, KSI and Rhyan Lamarr.
“During the pandemic, many of us reassessed the way we live our lives,” comments Gaida. “I am someone who constantly craves creative stimulation as well as personal and artistic growth. As much as I have loved Chicago for the past years, I felt a fire under me to change my circumstances. When I met the team at Apache, I was blown away by the talent, the work and how compassionate, FUN, and empathetic everyone is. I’m kind of in love with the whole situation and so excited for the future to come.”
As Gaida’s work with Apache gets underway, she joins a team whose recent projects include SXSW’s “Jazz Fest,” Super Bowl spot for T-Mobile featuring Miley Cyrus, “Do It For The Phones,” and various more for State Farm, Toyota, Taco Bell, Budweiser and Hulu’s 2021 docuseries, “McCartney 3,2,1."
