In 1984 Apple launched the Apple Macintosh, and as the famous Super Bowl ad declared, 1984 will not be like "1984". The print ads were equally eye-catching, with a simple visual of a hand on the famous mouse, wearing driving gloves.
The idea was to allow people to try the computer before they bought it, and what a quick way to communicate this.
"Every ad in this magazine has been telling you that a Macintosh™ is easy to use." the body copy reads. "Now we're going to put our Macintosh where our mouth is. Because right now, anyone who qualifies can walk into a participating authorized Apple dealer, and walk out with a Macintosh. No Purchase necessary."
"It's our way of letting you test drive a Macintosh in the comfort of your own office, home, RV, hotel room, dorm room or whatever."
