New Advertising Award- The Zephyr

Some may argue that advertising needs another award show as much as Paris Hilton needs more media exposure. But that's not stopping John Michelet, president of Ad-Power, Inc., who has founded the Zephyr Award. From the press release:

The Zephyr Awards finally reward advertising for its persuasive power rather than simply its looks or cleverness. Judging is based on the advertisements’ ability to convince people to change their behavior – rather than relying on broadly-and loosely-defined criteria like creativity and visual appeal. This unique focus has resulted in a different approach to selecting judges. In addition to industry professionals, judges will include a high school student, college student, homemaker and blue collar worker.

Entries are due February 17, 2006 and categories include campaign, tv, radio, newspaper, outdoor, magazine, web site, online, print and direct with one winner per category. More here.

There's a fine line between a panel of judges and a focus group.
