Please tell me this ad with its not so subtle "tank cannons are phallic!" symbolism isn't for real. It does direct viewers to kontraktnik.mil.gov.ua at the end so it just might be though. If this is really how they lure young men to the Ukrainian army, those young men must be pretty disappointed that they aren't roaming the country in their awesomely cool tanks picking up miniskirt-clad babes in every town. I mean seriously, they're selling "Join the army" on cruising? Tank-cruising no less, which is cooler than a convertible, I must admit.

I think that slogan's been used before! :-) [Yes, I know you know].
I like the old SNL version "It's not just a job, it's $98.34 per week!" [or some such amount].*

PermalinkAlan, about two lifetimes ago, I produced some US Army spots for NW Ayer in NY, and shooting those ads was more an adventure than a job. A not so good adventure. Of course their tagline was "Be All That You Can Be."

PermalinkHm... some not thought of metaphorics: when the army guy speaks it's dark. Then when they go away there is all daylight again...

Permalinkwow. You know, it could almost pass for a beer ad.

PermalinkYou're right. I think it actually makes a better beer ad!

PermalinkShould it even pass as an ad at all? :)

PermalinkI know it's an armoured personnel carrier but does that sound as cool? Armoured personnel carrier-cruising anyone?

PermalinkAbout 25 years ago, the US Army had a really cool ad featuring an M1 Abrams tank hauling ass over desert terrain. Of course the US wasn't using any tanks on such terrain at the time, but I suppose they were predicting the future.

PermalinkOr they just thought it looked really cool ;)

PermalinkI'm sure they thought it looked cool, and the folks at Ayer probably thought it looked cool too. Of course that was before they had to pay the Army six figures for billing and bidding irregularities.

PermalinkHow about APC cruising? Or LAV cruising?
General Dynamics Land Systems Canada builds LAVs here in London, Ontario. Whether or not driving one would get chicks, I don't know, but it still would be a hell of a lot of fun! ;)
